An adaptor for converting to a push-to-connect tube fitting/port a standard tube fitting/port body having a threaded portion for threaded attachment of a nut/plug, comprises a coupling nut/plug having an axially inner threaded end portion for threaded attachment to the threaded portion of the fitting/port body; a tube sealing member contained within the nut/plug for sealing to a tube having a locking surface spaced from the end of the tube; and a retention device retained in the nut/plug, which nut/plug has at an axially outer end thereof a central opening through which the tube can be inserted into the coupling nut/plug, whereby the locking surface can be engaged by the retention device to prevent axial withdrawal of the tube from the coupling nut/plug once inserted; wherein sealing and retention of the tube is effected within the confines of the coupling nut/plug and separate from and without requiring modification of the standard tube fitting/port body.

Adaptor and method for converting standard tube fitting/port to push-to-connect tube fitting/port

An adaptor () for converting to a push-to-connect tube fitting/port a standard tube fitting/port body () having a threaded portion () for threaded attachment of a nut/plug (), comprises a coupling nut/plug () having an axially inner threaded end portion for threaded attachment to the threaded portion () of the fitting/port body (); a tube sealing member () contained within the nut/plug () for sealing to a tube () having a locking surface () spaced from the end of the tube (); and a retention device () retained in the nut/plug (), which nut/plug () has at an axially outer end thereof a central opening through which the tube () can be inserted into the coupling nut/plug (), whereby the locking surface () can be engaged by the retention device () to prevent axial withdrawal of the tube () from the coupling nut/plug () once inserted; wherein sealing and retention of the tube () is effected within the confines of the coupling nut/plug () and separate from and without requiring modification of the standard tube fitting/port body ().

An externally threaded male hydraulic coupling member adapted for threaded and sealed attachment to a port body with a female port. The male coupling member having a tubular member with a threaded end, a bore extending through the member, a first cylindrical peripheral undercut portion longitudinally adjacent the threaded end, a series of intermediate external threads, and a second cylindrical undercut portion. The coupling member having a seal member and an annular ring member located in peripheral sealing contact with the first undercut portion. Wherein upon attachment, the seal member is encapsulated by the annular ring, the female port and the first undercut portion forming an annular chamber having a longitudinal extent greater than the seal member thickness. The coupling member also having a lock nut threadedly attached to the intermediate threads with a longitudinal end located between the annular ring and the intermediate threads. The lock nut having a longitudinal extent greater than the axial length of the intermediate threads and the second undercut portion.

Straight thread adjustable port end

A fitting having an axial end with a front face having an annular groove of half dovetail configuration for receiving a seal. The annular groove having a generally flat base portion, a first and a second side wall generally perpendicular with the base portion and a mouth portion generally opposite the flat base portion. The first side wall having a proximal first portion contiguous and perpendicular with the base portion, an inwardly angled flat portion contiguous with the proximal first portion, and an arcuate portion having a first end contiguous with the inwardly angled flat portion and a second end that ends into the mouth portion. The seal having a trapezoidal cross sectional area with a first flat wall, a second wall contiguous with the first wall, a third wall contiguous with the second wall, parallel with the first wall and having a shorter length than the first wall, and a fourth wall contiguous with the third and first wall. Wherein, while the seal is installed within the annular groove and not under compression, the seal second wall abuts the groove flat base portion, a portion of the seal third wall abuts the groove first side wall, and a portion of the fourth wall abuts the first flat surface of the inwardly angled lip portion.

Seal/method for improved retention of the sealing element in annular grooves

A fitting body is provided with a lip that protrudes radially from at least one of the side walls of the seal groove in the sealing face toward the other side wall to form an undercut whereby an annular seal is trapped axially behind the lip to prevent the annular seal from falling out of the groove. The lip is formed by forming the fitting body with a ledge that is integral with the fitting body and protrudes axially from the sealing face adjacent one of the side walls of the groove in the sealing face. The ledge is then flattened to form the lip and an annular seal such as an elastomeric O-ring seal is then inserted into the groove with the annular seal being mechanically trapped axially behind the lip to prevent the annular seal from falling out of the groove.

A fitting for joining a tube to a threaded body member includes a nut having a conical camming surface and a collapsible sleeve with a mating conical surface and internal annular serrations for gripping the tube. A seal in the face of the body member seals against a front transverse shoulder of the sleeve while an internal groove in the sleeve houses an o-ring for sealing against the tube. The rear wall of the groove is in a dogleg configuration and is engaged with the rear end of the sleeve to be collapsed therewith into close engagement and embedment with the tube to prevent seal extrusion at high pressures. The sleeve includes stop shoulders thereon to limit threaded engagement of the nut and thus the collapse of the sleeve and is disclosed in one and two piece embodiments.
