A torsional vibration damper has a first flywheel mass on the drive side and a second flywheel mass which is rotatable relative to the first flywheel mass and is connected therewith via a torsional damping device. At least one of the flywheel masses is provided with a grease chamber containing a viscous medium for at least partial accommodation of the torsional damping device. There is at least one opening which is provided with a closure and axially penetrates at least one wall of the flywheel mass for filling the grease chamber with the viscous medium. The closure is formed by a cover which is accommodated at the respective flywheel mass and movable in the axial direction relative to the opening. In a sealing position the cover covers the opening, and a filling position is removable from the opening by a connection piece which can be guided through the opening for filling the grease chamber.

A flywheel device has at least two inertial masses which can rotate relative to one another against the action of elastic elements of a damping device, one of which inertial masses, namely the output-side inertial mass which is farther from a drive system, such as for example the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine, is guided both radially and axially by way of a bearing arrangement with respect to the input-side inertial mass. The bearing arrangement has at least one axial plain bearing and one radial plain bearing. Both plain bearings guide the output-side inertial mass with respect to the input-side inertial mass with a clearance, the size of which is determined so that when a wobbling motion is introduced from the crankshaft to the input-side inertial mass, the output-side inertial mass, under the effect of centrifugal forces, can perform a self-stabilization. The radial plain bearing, to bring it as close as possible to the crankshaft, is engaged in the vicinity of the end of the hub of the output-side inertial mass, which end faces the crankshaft.

An inertial mass device is realized with at least two inertial masses which can rotate relative to one another, one of which is connected to a hub disc which is effectively connected to elastic elements of a damping device and preferably with its radially inner area forms a hub for the location of a bearing arrangement. Corresponding to the hub disc there is at least one planet wheel of a planetary gear train which acts between the inertial masses. The hub disc, on its side facing away from the planet wheel, on a specified radius around its axis of rotation, has indentations formed in the peripheral direction at specified intervals, each of which indentations forms a projection toward the planet wheel on the opposite side of the hub disc, whereby the projections form a toothing on the hub disc, by means of which the hub disc is engaged with the toothing of the planet wheel for the transmission of a torque between the inertial masses.

A flywheel mass arrangement having a flywheel mass on the driving side, a planetary gear unit having at least one planet carrier provided with at least one planet gear that engages with at least one additional toothed wheel of the planetary gear unit, and with a flywheel mass on the driven side which can be rotationally deflected relative to the flywheel mass on the driving side. At least one of the flywheel masses has a control structure for elastic elements of a damping arrangement which act in the circumferential direction. A mass is provided at the planet gear to project radially beyond the toothing diameter of the planet gear and is arranged at an axial offset relative to at least one additional toothed wheel such as the ring gear or the sun gear of the planetary gear unit, in particular relative to the toothing engagement of the additional toothed wheel with the planet gear.

A flywheel device having two flywheel masses which are deflectable relative to each other. Within one of the masses a grease chamber is provided along with packings against the emergence of viscous medium. One of the packings rests against a sealing seat which is developed on a structural part of one of the flywheel masses and another one of the packings is also provided on a structural part of the flywheel mass. Under axial initial stress the two packings are brought to rest against, in each case, one side of a bearing. At least one of the structural parts of the flywheel mass which has a sealing seat is adapted to receive both the bearing and the packing and has recesses in which the holder of the packing can be inserted for axially securing the packings with respect to the structural part on the one hand and with respect to the bearing on the other hand. The structural part which is preassembled in this way, after being brought with a predeterminable axial force against the other structural part which also has a sealing seat, can be firmly connected in axial direction to the other structural part.

A flywheel with two centrifugal masses has a secondary centrifugal mass assembled from two individual parts, wherein the first part is actively connected to a torsion damping device, and the second part has a friction surface for a friction clutch. To increase the useful life of the flywheel system, the two parts of the secondary centrifugal mass are held at a distance from one another, and are connected to one another in their radially inner area essentially only by means of axially projecting spacer elements, which spacer elements are distributed circumferentially, and by means of rivets or screws. The rear side of the second part of the secondary centrifugal mass can thus be air cooled by the system of air cooling passages.

A flywheel arrangement has a first flywheel releasably connected with the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine, a second flywheel rotatable relative to the first flywheel, and a torque carrier including a torsional vibration damper disposed between the two flywheels in a chamber at least partially filled with a viscous medium. The chamber is bounded on its side facing the second flywheel by a cover plate, which cover plate coordinates preferably with a seal disposed in the radially inward region of the cover plate. The seal has a plurality of sealing elements disposed one after another in the discharge direction of the viscous medium, and the sealing elements are installed up to gap width on the respective associated components to be sealed, whereby at least one of these sealing elements is associated with a flow guide which is used to divert viscous medium into a return channel leading into the chamber.

Flywheel arrangement for a transmission of a motor vehicle

A dual-mass flywheel comprises a primary mass (7) which is adapted to be fastened to a crankshaft (3) of an internal-combustion engine concentric to an axis of rotation (1) and a secondary mass (9) which is mounted for rotation relative to the primary mass (7) around the axis of rotation (1). The secondary mass (9) is coupled in a rotationally elastic manner to the primary mass (7) by a torsion-damping arrangement (19). The primary mass has two formed sheet-metal parts (35, 37) which define a cavity (47) to accommodate springs (17) of the torsion-damping arrangement (19) and is provided with supplementary masses in order to increase the moment of inertia. The supplementary masses may be made up of extensions (45, 63) of the formed sheet-metal parts (35, 37) or of additionally welded-on mass-rings (67). In particular, the supplementary masses are located in a region which is generally radially outwardly of the secondary mass (9).

A friction clutch for a transmission of a motor vehicle generally will have a clutch disc, and the clutch disc will be provided with friction linings for engaging the friction clutch with a rotating engine flywheel. The friction rings can be provided, on both surfaces thereof with trough-shaped depressions, to reduce the weight of the clutch disc. The trough-shaped depressions can essentially be rectangular or square, with rounded corners and with connecting surfaces which are steeply diagonal, or curved with a large radius of curvature.

For a dual-mass flywheel in the driving train of a motor vehicle there is proposed a cage-free ball-bearing 9 which has solid balls and is therefore particularly narrow in the axial direction and is sealed in a lubricant-tight manner by a sealing and insulating ring arrangement 31 formed by two ring elements 27, 29. The ring elements 27, 29 are tightly connected to one another axially beyond the ball-bearing 9 and rest with inherent elasticity under bias on the lateral faces of the ball-bearing 9.

A system of fastening a flywheel on an output end of a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine, the flywheel being combined into a single component with a clutch plate unit and a clutch disc. The fastening can be achieved with essentially axial joint surfaces on the output end on one hand, and on the flywheel on the other hand, wherein the joint surfaces are designed as tapered or cylindrical surfaces which are self-locking in the axial direction.

A flywheel of an internal combustion engine, wherein the flywheel has a reduced outside diameter. The flywheel has lugs which point radially inward, which lugs facilitate the fastening of the flywheel to the clutch housing. It is thereby possible to locate the threaded fasteners on a smaller average diameter of the flywheel. The clutch disc has a maximum and a minimum outside diameter, to guarantee that it can be installed past the lugs. In particular when this type of flywheel is installed in a flywheel with two centrifugal masses, it is possible to use the radially outward space saved for an additional centrifugal mass of the primary centrifugal mass.
