A component includes a memory region containing optically active material, a control arrangement configured to provide at least one control signal configured to change optical properties of the optically active material, and a detector configured to detect a change in the optical properties of the optically active material. The detector includes an evaluation input region configured to receive at least one evaluation input signal and an evaluation output region configured to provide an evaluation output signal. The memory region is arranged between the evaluation input region and the evaluation output region, and the control arrangement adjoins the memory region.

Component having optically active materials

A single-photon source was developed and the source comprises at least one active solid body, which upon excitation with light haying photons which each have excitation energy, emits a single photon having lower emission energy within a predefined time period. The active solid body is disposed on a surface or an interface of an electrically operated light source for photons having the excitation energy, so that the solid body can be excited through this surface or interface. It was found that the ease of handling and the ability to miniaturize electrical primary light sources can thus advantageously be combined with the ability of the active solid body to emit exactly one photon. Since the active solid body emits only a single photon within a predefined time period, it is no longer a disadvantage if the light source that is used for excitation emits a large number of photons per unit of time. This opens a way to mass-produce single-photon sources, among other things.

Single-photon source suitable for mass production and production method

A method for optical transmission of a structure into a recording medium which can be transformed locally from a first undefined state into a second defined state by irradiating with photons from a photon source. The two states of the recording medium are manifested in different physical and/or chemical properties of the recording medium. At least one photon source having a photon flux of less than 10photons per second is selected for the irradiation with the photons. It was recognized that with such a low photon flux especially fine structures can advantageously be transmitted into the recording medium without the irradiation having to be partially blocked by a mask. In this manner, for a given wavelength (energy) of the photons, structures can be transmitted that are considerably smaller than the width, defined by the diffraction limit, of the probability distribution for the locations at which the emitted photons are incident.

Method for optical transmission of a structure into a recording medium

A high-frequency conductor having improved conductivity comprises at least one electrically conductive base material. The ratio of the outer and inner surfaces of the base material permeable by a current to the total volume of the base material is increased by a) dividing the base material perpendicularly to the direction of current into at least two segments, which are spaced from each other by an electrically conductive intermediate piece and connected both electrically and mechanically to each other, and/or b) topographical structures in or on the surface of the base material and/or c) inner porosity of at least a portion of the base material compared to a design of the base material in which the respective feature was omitted. It was found that, as a result of these measures concerning the design, it is possible to physically arrange the same amount abase material so that a larger fraction of the base material is located at a distance of no more than skin depth from an outer or inner surface and is thus involved in current transport. As a result, a lesser fraction remains unused as a function of the skin effect.
