An apparatus adapted for counting the number of and half-wrapping banknotes and adapted to be capable of discriminating the banknotes of different nominal values, is disclosed. The apparatus is so constructed that a sensing or discriminating unit is provided in the transport route for the banknotes extracted by the separating drum for sensing or dicriminating the nominal values, authenticity and transport state of the notes, the banknotes after passing through the sensing and discriminating unit are transported by a changeover shutter plate in occasionally selected one of two preset directions, in such a manner that reject notes are accommodated in the reject note stacker and only the desired notes are accommodated in the stack unit for subsequent half-wrapping.

The banknote counting and bandsealing device has a banknote stacker supported on a supporting shaft so as to be movable longitudinally and rotatable between a first position receiving the banknotes and a second position aligned with a bandsealing position. A paper currency sorting and counting apparatus comprises a first separating unit adapted for separating damaged notes and sound notes supplied through a judgement unit designed to judge the authenticity as well as damaged the state of supplied banknotes of various nominal values, a stacker for stacking reject notes, a second separating unit for sensing the front and reverse sides of the normal notes and controlling the route of these normal banknotes, and a stacker for normal notes having a pair of vane wheels for stacking the normal banknotes in order to provide for automatic sorting of the supplied banknotes.

An apparatus for binding paper sheets stacked within a hopper into bundles each consisting of a predetermined number of paper sheets is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a separating drum receiving the paper sheets from the hopper and feeding them out by one, a counter counting the number of paper sheets fed from the separating drum, and a stacker capable of moving between a sheet receiving and a sheet discharging position. When the stacker in the sheet receiving position receives the predetermined number of paper sheets, it is moved to the sheet discharging position and the paper sheets therein are discharged onto support blocks of a binding unit by a transfer device. The binding unit binds the predetermined number of the paper sheets into a bundle with a tape, and a stamping device stamps predetermined particulars on the tape wound around the paper sheets.
