A ball bearing is provided which includes inner and outer races each having a raceway groove; balls; and a retainer made of a synthetic resin, and in which abnormal noise is reduced. Either the raceway groove of the inner race, or each of the raceway grooves of the inner race and the outer race has a radius of curvature which is 104% or more and 109% or less of the radius of each of the balls.

A synthetic resin retainer includes two annular members having opposed surfaces opposed to each other and each formed with a plurality of pockets which are circumferentially spaced apart from each other, and in which the balls are received. Each annular member includes axially concave, arc-shaped pocket wall portions defining the inner surfaces of the pockets, and flat plate-shaped coupling plate portions coupling together the adjacent pairs of the pocket wall portions. The coupling plate portions have axial thicknesses of 30% or less of the diameters of the balls, and the pocket wall portions have, at deepest points of the pockets, thicknesses of 10% or less of the diameters of the balls.

Synthetic resin retainer and ball bearing

A retainer of synthetic resin is provided in such a way that abnormal heat generation in a bearing and wear of the retainer due to interference between the retainer and balls are less likely to arise while the bearing is rotating at a high speed. A retainer () of synthetic resin includes two annular members () made of synthetic resin and facing each other in the axial direction, the annular members defining therebetween a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart pockets () in which respective balls () are received. Concave spherical surfaces () are formed at the circumferential ends of the respective pockets () so as to extend along the outer peripheries of the balls (), and cylindrical surfaces () are formed at the axial ends of the respective pockets ().

Retainer made of synthetic resin for use in ball bearing and ball bearing

Each of an outer ring, an inner ring, and a ball is a rolling contact member formed of a &#x3b2;-sialon sintered body inexpensive, capable of reliably ensuring sufficient durability, and capable of being used in an application where an imposed load is changed abruptly. The sintered body contains as a main component &#x3b2;-sialon represented by a compositional formula of SiAlONand satisfying 0.1&#x2266;z&#x2266;3.5, and has a remainder formed of an impurity. The rolling contact member has a Young's modulus of 180 GPa or greater but 270 GPa or smaller.
