A split-opening portion is formed by two transverse breakable portions that extend substantially along the transverse direction of a vehicle, two front-rear breakable portions that extend substantially along the front-rear direction of the vehicle and are connected to the transverse breakable portions, and a middle breakable portion that is located between the two transverse breakable portions and extends substantially along the transverse direction of the vehicle. The middle breakable portion is connected to the front-rear breakable portions. In a front passenger seat airbag apparatus, the split-opening portion is broken by pressing force of an inflated airbag so that door portions are separated from the door adjacent portion, and the door support portions are pivoted together with the door portions about hinge portions serving as fulcrums. The breaking strengths of parts of the split-opening portion are varied such that is broken in the order of the transverse breakable portions, the front-rear breakable portions, and the middle breakable portion.

Front passenger seat airbag apparatus

A garnish includes a garnish body which covers a folded air bag and a locking portion which is inserted to be locked in a mounting hole in a mounting base on a vehicle body. The locking portion holds the garnish body which is pressed by the air bag when the air bag is inflated to move so as to form a projecting space for the air bag. The locking portion includes a locking main body portion which is inserted to be locked in the mounting hole and a connecting piece portion. The connecting piece portion includes a locking base portion on which the locking main body portion is provided, connecting portions which are connected to a rear surface of the garnish body, and deformable portions lying between the locking base portion and the connecting portions and is molded integrally with the garnish body. The deformable portions deform to extend a distance between the locking base portion and the connecting portion when the garnish body moves towards a vehicle interior side.

Garnish

A clip engages an assist grip with an engaging portion of the clip engaged with a clip insertion hole of an attachment part. The assist grip is mounted to a body panel by engaging a first locking pawl of the clip with a rear surface of the body panel, and engaging a second locking pawl of the clip with a front surface of the body panel. A pressure plug is fitted into a rear end gap portion of the clip when a cap on the attachment part is closed.

Mounting structure and mounting method for vehicle interior parts

A knee protecting airbag device, which is located in front of a passenger, comprises an airbag, an inflator, and a case housing the airbag and the inflator. When the airbag extends and expands, it protrudes toward the rear of the vehicle from the opening of the case, to protect the knees of the passenger. The knee protecting airbag device further comprises a holding member having a mounting portion for mounting the knee protecting airbag device on the vehicle. The holding member holds the case. In the holding member, there are a communication hole and a support face, which is arranged on the periphery of the communication hole. The communicating hole communicates with the opening of the case and allows the airbag to expand. The support face can support the front face of the extending and expanding airbag.

Knee protecting airbag device

An instrument panel is formed so that a facing layer constituted by three layers consisting of a skin layer, a foam layer and a barrier layer is disposed on the front surface side of a base and a rupture presumptive portion is disposed in a region for covering a folded air bag so that the rupture presumptive portion is opened so as to enable the air bag to protrude when the air bag is unfolded and inflated. The rupture presumptive portion is formed so that cutdown portions are formed so as to extend from the back surface side of the base to the barrier layer along the rupture presumptive portion. A large number of holes are provided at least in the skin layer so as to cover only the rupture presumptive portion and its vicinity.

Instrument panel and method for producing the same

A car interior part, to which an air bag device can be assembled, includes an interior part main body portion and a cover portion for an air bag. In the periphery of the back surface of the cover portion, there is formed an angular shaped mounting wall which can be connected to the air bag device. The mold releasing direction of the interior part main body portion is set as a direction that crosses the developing direction of an air bag. At least one of front and rear mounting walls formed in the mounting wall is or are formed in the same direction as the mold releasing direction of the interior part main body portion. In the portion of the rear mounting wall that is situated upwardly of the mounting portion of the rear mounting wall, there is formed an integral hinge portion. The mounting portion of the rear mounting wall is fixed to the air bag device while it is folded at the integral hinge portion thereof.

A method of forming a synthetic resin formed article having a double-layer structure of a base portion and a covering portion which covers an outer periphery of the base portion and which has an inwardly curved portion for covering an end portion of the base portion. The method includes the steps of forming a sheet-like material into a predetermined shape by the vacuum forming to obtain a preliminary covering portion; trimming an end portion of the preliminary covering portion obtained in the previous step to obtain the covering portion of the formed article; setting the covering portion of the formed article on one of a pair of dies which constitute a press-type forming die with the curved portion of the covering portion being supported by a slide core located at a forefront position; setting a molten resin which is forming material of the base portion into a gap between the one die and the other die in a state in which the covering portion of the formed article is being set on the one die; clamping the press-type forming die in a state wherein the slide core is in contact with the other die at the forefront position immediately after or in synchronism with the molten resin setting step and causing the molten resin to set to form it; and opening the forming die and then removing the formed article obtained in the clamping step from the press-type forming die.

Method of forming synthetic resin formed articles

A resin laminate of the invention includes sheet laminate including a skin, which is securely joined with a foamed bead base by heating. The resin laminate is manufactured according to the following steps. The foamed bead base and the sheet laminate consisting of the skin, a foam layer, and a thermoplastic resin film are prepared separately. The thermoplastic resin film is made of a resin material which thermally adheres to both the foam layer and the foamed bead base and has a softening temperature lower than those of the foam layer and the foamed bead base. The thermoplastic resin film is softened by heating the sheet laminate, which is then softened by heating the sheet laminate, which is then pressed against and bonded to the foamed bead base by vacuum molding or press forming. The thermoplastic resin film thermally adheres to both the foam layer of the sheet laminate and the foamed bead base, thus joining the sheet laminate with the foamed bead base.

Resin laminate

A resin laminate of the invention includes a sheet laminate including a skin, which is securely joined with a foamed bead base by heating. The resin laminate is manufactured according to the following steps. The foamed bead base and the sheet laminate consisting of the skin, a foam layer, and a thermoplastic resin film are prepared separately. The thermoplastic resin film is made of a resin material which thermally adheres to both the foam layer and the foamed bead base and has a softening temperature lower than those of the foam layer and the foamed bead base. The thermoplastic resin film is softened by heating the sheet laminate, which is then softened by heating the sheet laminate, which is then pressed against and bonded to the foamed bead base by vacuum molding or press forming. The thermoplastic resin film thermally adheres to both the foam .layer of the sheet laminate and the foamed bead base, thus joining the sheet laminate with the foamed bead base.

Method of forming a resin laminate containing foam beads

An air bag apparatus in which the appearance of the interface between the portion covering the air bag and portions surrounding it can be improved, the number of components can be reduced, and the assembly process can be shortened. A cover unit covers an air bag, which inflates on a predetermined occasion, consists of a cover which-opens with the inflation of the air bag, and a body for holding the cover. The cover unit is an integrally molded product in which a skin is formed on a substrate, and includes, at the location connecting the periphery of the cover with the body, a breakaway portion along which the cover is separable from the body when the air bag inflates, and a hinge portion for maintaining the connection of the body and the cover. In the breakaway portion, the substrate has a fragile portion, and the skin is separated into two parts at the position of the fragile portion. In the hinge portion, the substrate and skin are continuously formed and extend from the body to the cover.

Air bag apparatus

An air bag device for an instrument panel has a cover with a hinge and in one embodiment a break-away portion made of thermoplastic material. The cover has a bracket. The strength of the break-away portion is lower than that of the cover. The break-away portion breaks when an air bag inflates. The cover opens rotationally around the hinge. The second embodiment has no break-away portion.
