Herein disclosed is a lubricating oil comprising at least one member selected from the group consisting of esterified products obtained by reacting: (A) a compound selected from the group consisting of alcohols represented by the following general formula (I), alcohols represented by the following general formula (II) and hydrogenated derivatives thereof; with (B) a fatty acid having not less than 6 carbon atoms or a mixture of the fatty acid with a rosin selected from the group consisting of rosin, hydrogenated rosins, disproportionated rosins and polymerized rosins: ##STR1## in the general formulas (I) and (II), X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 each independently represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and n is an integer ranging from 0 to 10. The lubricating oil is used as rolling mill oils, hydraulic oils cutting-grinding oils, lubricating oils for metal plastic working and those for internal combustion engines.
