Female fiber optic connectors having a connection port opening for receiving a fiber optic plug and cable assemblies comprising the female fiber optic connector along with methods of making the same. The female fiber optic connectors comprise an actuator such as a rocker latch arm used for releasing or securing an external fiber optic plug that may be received in the connection port. A main barrel of the female fiber optic connector comprises a connection port suitable for receiving an external fiber optic plug connector. The female fiber optic connectors disclosed advantageously allow for an quick and easy connection with an external fiber optic plug connector for ruggedized or other desired applications. Methods for terminating the optical fibers of a cable to the female fiber optic connector for forming cable assemblies are also disclosed.

Female fiber optic connectors having a rocker latch arm and methods of making the same

A female hardened fiber optic connector for terminating an end of a fiber optic cable that is suitable for making an optical connection with another hardened cable assembly and cable assemblies using the same are disclosed. The female hardened fiber optic connector includes a connector assembly, a crimp body, a connector sleeve, and female coupling housing. The connector sleeve has one or more orientation features that cooperate with one or more orientation features inside the female coupling housing. The crimp body has a first shell and a second shell for securing the connector assembly at a front end of the shells and a cable attachment region rearward of the front end for securing a cable.

Female hardened optical connectors for use with male plug connectors

Embodiments of the disclosure relate to a method of preparing a bundled cable. In the method, a plurality of subunits is wound around a central member in one or more layers of subunits to form the bundled cable. For a section of the central member, each layer of subunits has a pitch over which a subunit of the layer of subunits makes one revolution around the section of the central member and a length of the subunit required to make the one revolution. The subunits are configured to have a nominal helical length equal to the ratio of a nominal length to a nominal pitch. Further, in the method, a measurement of the bundled cable is monitored, and a winding rate of the plurality of subunits is adjusted based on the measurement in order to account for deviations from the nominal helical length.

A fiber optic cable assembly for terminating a cable using an interior seal component in a passage of a retention body and methods for making the same. The interior seal component inhibits a bonding material from passing through to unintended portions of the retention body, and also serves to position the cable within the retention body during termination. Embodiments may include an optional end seal for inhibiting the bonding agent from escaping the retention body.

Fiber optic cable assemblies for terminating a fiber optic cable and methods of making the same

Disclosed herein is a traceable fiber optic cable assembly with indication of polarity. In particular, the traceable fiber optic cable assembly includes a traceable fiber optic cable, a first duplex connector at a first end of the fiber optic cable, and a second duplex connector at a second end of the fiber optic cable. A first tracing end of the tracing optical fiber is in a preconfigured orientation in the first duplex connector offset from a central axis of the first duplex connector, and a second tracing end of the tracing optical fiber is in a preconfigured orientation in the second duplex connector offset from a central axis of the second duplex connector. The tracing optical fiber receives an optical tracing signal for propagation to the second tracing end of the first tracing optical fiber to indicate a first orientation of the first duplex connector corresponding to a first polarity state of the traceable fiber optic cable assembly.

Methods for cleaving an optical fiber that extends from a ferrule are provided herein. The ferrule can be aligned on a first side of a scribe wire and an unconstrained end of the optical fiber on a second side of the scribe wire. Tension can be applied to the scribe wire with the optical fiber. Relative motion between the scribe wire and the optical fiber can be caused, while the tension is applied with the optical fiber. The scribe wire and the optical fiber can be separated. A fiber optic shard can be cleaved from the optical fiber. The fiber optic shard may include the unconstrained end of the optical fiber.

An optical adapter assembly includes a mounting member and an adapter member selectively coupled to the mounting member, the adapter member including an adapter housing extending in the longitudinal direction, a jacket engagement member that is selectively positionable within the fiber insertion path and that is structurally configured to engage an outer jacket of a fiber optic cable positioned within the fiber insertion path, a sleeve positioned at least partially within the adapter housing and extending around the fiber insertion path, and a mounting member engagement portion that is engaged with the mounting member and that restricts movement of the adapter member with respect to the mounting member in the longitudinal direction.

Disclosed are optical plug connectors that can be converted from a first mating interface to a second mating interface that is different than the first mating interface. The optical plug connector comprises a plug body, a shroud, a ferrule and a first coupling member for securing the optical plug connector. The shroud comprises a first mating interface configuration that may be removed and replaced with a shroud having a second mating interface configuration.

At least one group of loose optical fibers is restrained at multiple locations during fabrication of a fiber optic cable assembly using rear and front ferrule boots, thereby avoiding a need for traditional ribbonizing techniques. The group(s) of loose optical fibers are inserted through one or more apertures defined in each of the rear ferrule boot and the front ferrule boot, and inserted through at least one group of bores defined in a ferrule. A rear portion of the ferrule receives at least a portion of the front ferrule boot. A manufacturing fixture including a removable jig may retain a rear ferrule boot and a medial section of the group(s) of loose optical fibers, while the front ferrule boot and a terminal section of the group(s) of loose optical fibers are positioned outside the fixture for further processing. A fiber optic cable assembly including front and rear ferrule boots, as well as methods of fabrication, are further provided.

A ferrule boot for a fiber optic cable includes a front body portion defining at least one aperture, and includes at least one rear body portion defining at least one guide channel that facilitates insertion of loose optical fiber segments through the at least one aperture. At least a portion of each guide channel lacks a top surface boundary that is registered with a top surface of a corresponding aperture, such that an accessible (e.g., open) top portion is provided to ease insertion of at least one group of optical fibers into the at least one guide channel, with the optical fibers preferably being non-ribbonized. Fiber optic cable assemblies and methods for fabrication utilizing the ferrule boot are further provided.

A preconnectorized outdoor cable streamlines the deployment of optical waveguides into the last mile of an optical network. The preconnectorized outdoor cable includes a cable and at least one plug connector. The plug connector is attached to a first end of the cable, thereby connectorizing at least one optical waveguide. The cable has at least one optical waveguide, at least one tensile element, and a cable jacket. Various cable designs such as figure-eight or flat cables may be used with the plug connector. In preferred embodiments, the plug connector includes a crimp assembly having a crimp housing and a crimp band. The crimp housing has two half-shells being held together by the crimp band for securing the at least one tensile element. When fully assembled, the crimp housing fits into a shroud of the preconnectorized cable. The shroud aides in mating the preconnectorized cable with a complimentary receptacle.
