Wireless noise is detected within a time period specifically held after a data packet is wirelessly communicated, where no data is purposefully wirelessly communicated during this time period. The time period may be an inter-frame space (IFS) period within which no data is to be wirelessly communicated, and that is a period waited for prior to accessing a wireless medium over which data is wirelessly communicated. One or more actions are performed to counteract the noise. The frequency at which a liquid crystal display is being driven may be decreased so that harmonics caused thereby that caused the noise are no longer within the wireless communication frequency range. An opposite-in-phase version of the noise may also or alternatively be combined with a signal when data is subsequently wirelessly received. The signal includes a data component and a noise component, the opposite-in-phase version of the noise canceling out the noise component.

Detecting wireless noise within time period in which no data is purposefully wirelessly communicated

The electronic device includes a device body, a radiation element for performing reception and/or radiation of electromagnetic wave as an antenna to be equipped with the device body, and a dielectric member placed close to or in contact with the radiation element within the device body, the dielectric member being movable from the outside of the device body to shift the resonance frequency of the antenna. According to the present invention, it is possible, for an electronic device such as a notebook PC having a wireless communication function, to compensate the deviations of resonance frequency of antennas caused by errors in mounting of the antennas for individual devices, the difference in the dimension of structures or the like, to match the resonance frequency to the specified central frequency.

Docking-type function-providing apparatus and portable device

A technique for prohibiting access to a computer having a security function when a security device is illegally removed from the computer. The security device is a hardware component that constitutes a part of a security function for a computer. When the security device is illegally removed from the computer, access to the computer is prohibited. Data indicating that the security device is attached to the computer are stored in a nonvolatile memory. Then, when a specific event, such as a power-ON event, is used as a trigger, the procedure for prohibiting the access to the computer is initiated. Following this, based on the data stored in the memory, it is detected that the security device was once attached to the computer and that it has now been removed. If currently the security device is not attached to the computer, although it was attached before, the access to the computer is prohibited.

As a user depresses an eject button from the standard position to its sunken position and an instruction is transmitted to an installed notebook PC to request the disconnection of a driver for a device being operated in a docking station. When a notification is received from the PC indicating that the disconnection has been completed, for example and not to limit the a solenoid type electromagnetic apparatus switches a plunger to its non-projected position. The eject button is then placed into its projected position owing to the urging force of a spring. When the user depresses the eject button placed in its projected position, a motion direction converting lever is pivoted to activate an ejecting member and a locking hook. Consequently, the PC is ejected.

Docking station

The present invention provides a notebook PC with a monitor that enables a user to have better handling of the PC and viewing of the display of the device when using the PC. A PC includes a monitor and a main unit that are connected to each other by an arm through a first hinge portion and a second hinge portion. In the present invention, the angle of tilting of the monitor is constantly maintained even when the position in height of the monitor is changed.

In a notebook type computer terminal, a plate type slot antenna is provided between a display panel and a surrounding wall of a display panel housing so that a radiator portion thereof is projecting from a frame of the display panel and a stay, which are made of conductive material by a length more than a predetermined dimension S. A ground portion of the antenna is connected not only to a ground of a radio transceiver unit but also to the display panel housing made of conductive material through the stay.

A docking station is provided with a floppy disk drive and a CD-ROM drive used to extend a function of a lap-top PC. A station body has a pocket formed so as to house and hold the lap-top PC therein. A notebook type PC, for easier use by a user, including a liquid crystal monitor unit, a mainframe section, and an arm for connecting the liquid crystal monitor unit to the mainframe section, is provided. One end of the arm is connected to the liquid crystal monitor unit by a rotatable first hinge. The other end of the arm is connected to the mainframe section by a rotatable second hinge. The angle and distance of the liquid crystal monitor unit with respect to the mainframe section can be set freely by the first hinge and the second hinge.
