A printing apparatus for printing an image on paper includes first and second units, and a registration unit. The first unit detects a first length, along a predetermined conveyance direction, of paper conveyed from a feed port. The second unit detects a second length, along a direction intersecting with the predetermined conveyance direction, of the paper set in the feed port. The registration unit registers a size corresponding to the first and the second lengths of the paper set in the feed port, based on second unit detection. The first unit detects the first length of first paper conveyed to print a predetermined test pattern before second paper is set in the feed port. The registration unit registers a regular size based on a result of first unit detection on the first paper from among regular sizes corresponding to a result of second unit detection on the second paper.

Printing apparatus and method for controlling printing apparatus

A conveying device and a conveying control method that can control a phase of a main conveying roller and a position of a print medium with an inexpensive configuration and a fast throughput are provided. For that purpose, an LF roller phase is obtained, phase matching control is performed so that the print medium comes to a desired position when the LF roller is at a desired phase, and skewing of the print medium is corrected by the same control method as the phase matching control.

Conveying device and conveying control method

A conveying apparatus includes a first pair of rollers having a drive roller and a pinch roller driven by the drive roller, a second pair of rollers provided downstream of the first pair of rollers, and an arm member supporting the drive roller and adapted to be swingable such that a force for pressing the drive roller against the pinch roller increases as a conveyance resistance of the sheet increases. The force for pressing the drive roller against the pinch roller decreases if driven by the moving sheet. The conveying speed of the second pair of rollers is set to be higher than the conveying speed of the drive roller so as to cause the drive roller to be driven by the sheet in the case where a skew of the sheet has been corrected and the sheet having the skew corrected is conveyed by the second pair of rollers.

Conveying apparatus and image forming apparatus

A printer includes a set cover pivotally movably provided on a carriage. The cover can be set in a closed state in which the cover presses a head of the cartridge housed in the housing portion and an open state in which the cover opens the housing portion when the cartridge is replaced. A release lever is subjected to a bias force so as to protrude from an inner wall surface of the housing portion. The release lever is movable against the bias force. The release lever comes into contact with an end of the cartridge which faces the bottom surface when the cartridge is inserted into the housing portion. The release lever contacts the rear surface of the cartridge housed in the housing portion. The bias force is stronger when the cover is in the open state than when the cover is in the closed state.

There are provided an inkjet printing apparatus and a method of predicting which can perform an accurate ink remaining amount detection. An inkjet printing apparatus is for performing printing onto a print medium by using a print head including an energy generating element generating energy used for ejecting ink from an ejection opening. The apparatus has a print head temperature detecting unit, an atmosphere temperature detecting unit and a predicting unit. The predicting unit drives the energy generating element at the time a difference between the temperature of the print head before driving the energy generating element and the atmosphere temperature detected by the atmosphere temperature detecting unit is less than a predetermined temperature.

Inkjet printing apparatus and method of predicting

An image processing apparatus has an original mount, a recording material mount for mounting recording materials, a supply roller, a separating unit, a reading unit for reading an image of the original, an original detection sensor for detecting the original on the original mount, and an original widthwise direction reference surface for being abutted by the original mounted on the original mount to position that original. The recording material widthwise direction reference surface is used to position the recording material so that a portion of the original does not superpose on the recording material having a maximum width and the original detection sensor detects that a portion of the original mounted on the original mount is not superposed on the recording material having maximum width.

A first conveying mechanism includes an intermediate conveying roller for conveying a recording sheet, an intermediate conveying roller shaft for supporting the intermediate conveying roller, an intermediate conveying roller drive mechanism for rotationally driving the intermediate conveying roller shaft, and a roller control mechanism for controlling movements of the intermediate conveying roller relative to the intermediate conveying roller shaft. The roller control mechanism performs skew correction along with conveying the recording sheet by rotating the intermediate conveying roller integrally with the intermediate conveying roller shaft while the intermediate conveying roller drive mechanism rotationally drives the intermediate conveying roller shaft and stops the rotational drive of the intermediate conveying roller shaft performed by the intermediate conveying roller drive mechanism after the skew correction to cause the intermediate conveying roller to be movable within a predetermined range in the axial direction of the intermediate conveying roller shaft.

Sheet conveying apparatus and image forming apparatus

An image reading and recording apparatus has: a carriage for mounting a recording head; a reading unit which reads an original document; a conveying roller arranged on a conveying path which is used in common for recording paper and the original; and a platen arranged so as to face the recording head. The reading unit is movable between a reading position on an upper side of the conveying path and a retracting position on a lower side of the conveying path. The platen can relatively and independently move for the reading unit.

Image reading and recording apparatus

An image reading and recording apparatus includes a trigger arm configured to start transmission of a drive to a paper feed unit in accordance with the position of a carriage. The trigger arm includes a first lever portion for feeding a recording sheet in a state in which a cap is separated from a recording head and a second lever portion for feeding a document in a state in which the cap is in contact with the recording head.

Image reading/recording apparatus

In the image reading and recording apparatus, a separating and feeding unit, a paper end detecting unit, a reading unit, a conveying unit, and a recording unit are arranged in this order from the upstream of the conveying direction. The separating and feeding unit has a switching unit for selectively switching between a separating function of separating the uppermost one of stacked sheets and a feeding function of feeding each separated sheet at a predetermined speed. After a sheet is separated, switching from the separating function to the feeding function is carried out before the paper end detecting unit detects the top end of the sheet.

The typical configuration of an image processing apparatus includes a document stacking means on which documents are stacked, a recording medium stacking means on which recording medium are stacked, and a feeding roller for feeding documents or recording medium from the document stacking means or the recording medium stacking means. The feeding roller is located above the recording medium stacking means, and at least the lower end of the recording medium stacking means is movable in the direction approaching or moving away from the feeding roller. The document stacking means is attached above and substantially parallel to the recording medium stacking means, at a predetermined interval. Further, the document stacking means does not have a support portion at a location corresponding to the feeding roller, and is moved as the recording medium stacking means is moved.

An image processing apparatus includes a document loading unit in which a document sheet is loaded, a recording-sheet loading unit in which a recording sheet is loaded, a supply roller that supplies the document sheet or the recording sheet from the document loading unit or the recording-sheet loading unit, a separator that separates the document sheet or the recording sheet in cooperation with the supply roller, a feeding path through which both the document sheet and the recording sheet pass, a reading unit that reads an image on the document sheet, and a recording unit that records an image on the recording sheet.

A sheet feeding device includes a guiding member having an upper guiding surface for guiding the upper surface of a document and a lower guiding surface for guiding the lower surface of the document to guide the document to a support portion. The guiding member is movable to a set position for guiding the document to the support portion without causing the document to come into contact with a feeding roller, a recording-sheet separation position withdrawn for separating one sheet from the other recording sheets and feeding the separated sheet, a document separation position for guiding the document to the feeding roller, and a sheet return position for returning the recording sheet or the document to a corresponding support portion using a return lever. The guiding member is held via a spring such that the guiding member can be returned by itself from the sheet return position to the set position.
