The invention relates to an internal body observation device which includes an ordinary observation light source, an ordinary observation irradiation optical system, a special observation light source, a special observation irradiation optical system, an observation optical system for transmitting the light from an observation target, a detection means configured to detect the light transmitted from the observation optical system as a detection signal, and a processing unit for separating the detection signal in the respective light sources and making the detection signal into images, wherein the light from any one of the ordinary observation light source and the special observation light source is modulated, and the modulated light can be radiated to the observation target together with the light from the other light source, and the detection signal detected by the detection means is separated by the processing unit based on the frequency of the modulation.

Fluorescence endoscope system

An endoscope apparatus and method are disclosed wherein first and second light beams, each having different center wavelengths, illuminate an object. A detector and a light receiver optical system are provided that receive back-scattered light from first and second illumination devices. A processor is provided that calculates a value corresponding to the size of particles that back-scatter light of the first and second light beams that are incident onto the object, with the calculated value being independent of the concentration of the particles. Optical system and optical apparatus capable of switching between optical coherence tomography observation and optical coherence microscopy observation

A general-light observation light image can be obtained by illuminating the polarized frame sequence light or polarized white light, for example. In addition, a parallel polarized component and a vertical polarized component with respect to a polarizing direction of illuminating light, which is polarized in a specific direction are captured. Then, image data, which is a difference between both of the polarized component is calculated and is displayed in a display device. Thus, a scattered light component in a living-body tissue surface side can be extracted with good S/N, which can improve the diagnosis functionality.

Endoscope apparatus

A living body function measurement method comprises separating a light from a low coherence light source into a signal light and a reference light, modulating a frequency of at least one of the signal light and the reference light, irradiating the signal light to an observation area of a living body sample, giving a stimulation to the living body sample from an outside of the living body sample, synthesizing the signal light via the observation area and the reference light and detecting a heterodyne interference signal, and measuring a living body function of the observation area by measuring a change in the heterodyne interference signal when the stimulation is changed.

Living body function measurement method

A scanning microscope allowing fluorescence observation and morphological observation to be simultaneously performed on the same region of interest and permitting both a fluorescence observation image and a morphological observation image to be obtained within a reduced period of time. The scanning microscope includes a device for splitting low-coherence light from a low-coherence light source between a first optical path and a second optical path. A frequency modulator is placed in at least one of the first and second optical paths to produce a frequency difference between light passing through the two optical paths. An objective optical system is placed in the first optical path to apply light to a sample and to collect light from the sample. A scanning device is placed in the first optical path to scan the sample and the light applied by the objective optical system relative to each other in a plane perpendicular to the optical axis. A combining device combines together the first and second optical paths. An interference signal detecting system detects an interference signal having the frequency difference from the combined light. A fluorescence branching device branches fluorescence from the sample excited by the low-coherence light. A fluorescence detecting system detects the branched fluorescence.

Scanning microscope

An optical system having a polarization compensating optical system capable of compensating for retardation with high accuracy. The polarization compensating optical system includes a half-wave plate (22), a first optical system (23a) having at least one uncoated refracting surface (26, 27), and a second optical system (23b) having at least one coated refracting surface (24, 25). The total rotation of the polarization plane introduced in rays passing through the entire optical system is reduced to approximately zero by rotation of the polarization plane produced by the first optical system (23a), and the total retardation introduced in the rays is reduced to approximately zero by retardation produced by the second optical system (23b).

Optical system having polarization compensating optical system

For observing transparent phase objects and the like, an optical microscope is provided with an aperture element 13 and an optical modulation element 14 that creates an image having the detecting sensitivity of the phase contrast imaging technique while simultaneously realizing an image having the three-dimensional sense provided by the modulation contrast imaging technique. In the present invention, the aperture is shaped as an angular segment of a circular ring that is centered on the optical axis and the corresponding optical modulation element includes either a light attenuating phase plate in the shape of a circular ring, or a light attenuating region in the shape of a circular ring with all other regions of the optical modulation element adding a phase retardation to the light passing therethrough.
