An optical module includes a housing including an internal space that has an opening in a substrate mounting surface, an element mounting surface that forms a portion of an inner surface of the internal space, and a waveguide introduction opening that is formed in a side surface intersecting the substrate mounting surface and is opened to the opening of the substrate mounting surface and communicated with the internal space, an optical element that is mounted on the element mounting surface, and an electronic element that is mounted on the element mounting surface and is connected to the optical element. When the substrate mounting surface is mounted on a circuit substrate, an optical waveguide that protrudes from a surface of the circuit substrate is introduced into the internal space through the waveguide introduction opening.

A connector incorporating a module, in which an incorporated electrical component may be cooled efficiently and reliably, is provided. A transmission apparatus disposed inside a main body cover of a module-incorporating connector is provided with a ceramic board at which an electrical component and such are mounted. A metal cover touches an upper face of the electrical component. A portion of the metal cover is disposed in an insertion portion of the main body cover. Heat generated by the electrical component is propagated via the metal cover to the insertion portion of a first cover member. When the module-incorporating connector is connected to a socket of a device, the insertion portion is disposed inside an exterior case, in which temperature is controlled by an air conditioner, and cooling is performed reliably and efficiently.

Connector with built-in module

A prism/lens array () in the present invention is a grass prism having an approximately 45 degrees tapered part. A plurality of lenses () are provided side by side on the front surface of the prism/lens array (). A pair of protrusions () are formed on both sides of lenses () on the surface on which the lenses () are provided. The protrusions () are formed in the top-bottom direction of the prism/lens array () and roughly V-shaped cross sections. Grooves () are provided in an inside surface of a prism-securing part (), in areas corresponding to the protrusions (). The grooves () are shaped such that the protrusions () can fit into the grooves; for example, the grooves could have roughly V-shaped cross sections.

An optical module which includes a housing having a placing portion and an optical input-output portion facing an optical input-output surface of a ferrule; a first fixing portion for fixing the ferrule to the housing in the direction of the Z-axis perpendicular to the placing portion; and a second fixing portion for fixing the ferrule to the housing in the direction of the Y-axis perpendicular to the optical input-output surface, wherein the second fixing portion can change states from the first state to the second state; the first fixing portion fixes the ferrule in the direction of the Z-axis, and does not fix the ferrule in the Z-axis direction when the first fixing portion is at a second position; and the first fixing portion moves from the second position to the first position when the second fixing portion changes its state to a specific state.

An optical module includes a module housing body including an electrical connection section for electrically connecting the electronic substrate and the optical module to each other and a housing section for housing the optical module, where the module housing body is mounted on the electronic substrate in such a manner that an electrical connection terminal of the electronic substrate and the electrical connection section is connected to each other and a fixing member for maintaining a state in which an electrical connection terminal of the optical module has contact with the electrical connection section in the module housing body. Optical module and method of manufacturing thereof

An optical module according to the present invention includes: a light-emitting device that outputs laser light; a temperature adjustment unit that adjusts a wavelength of the laser light outputted from the light-emitting device so as to be locked at a predetermined wavelength; a wavelength monitor unit that receives laser light outputted from the light-emitting device by allowing the laser light to pass through an optical filter provided above the temperature adjustment unit and monitors the wavelength thereof; a package for sealing the light-emitting device, the temperature adjustment unit, and the wavelength monitor unit into the inside thereof; and a package temperature detection unit for detecting a temperature of the package, in which the temperature adjustment unit adjusts an oscillation wavelength of the laser light outputted from the light-emitting device to the predetermined lock wavelength based on a signal outputted from the wavelength monitor unit, and a signal from the package temperature detection unit is used to correct the lock wavelength shift caused by temperature characteristics of the optical filter by estimating the optical filter temperature based on the detected package temperature.

Optical module, optical transmission apparatus, WDM optical transmission device, and method for stabilizing laser wavelength

On a second thermo-module there are disposed a prism, an optical filter, and a sub-mount, via a base respectively. On the front side of the sub-mount, there are disposed a first photodetector and a second photodetector. The optical filter is structured with a crystal member that satisfies a condition that &#x3b1;+(1/n)&#xd7;(&#x394;n/&#x394;T) becomes not more than 3.5, where &#x3b1; is a coefficient of linear expansion, nis a refractive index at a normal temperature, and &#x394;n is a change of a refractive index corresponding to a temperature variation &#x394;T.

Optical filter, laser module, and wavelength locker module

An optical module of the present invention can stabilize e.g. the temperature of a wavelength monitor portion so that the oscillating wavelength of a laser diode is stabilized. The laser diode and the wavelength monitor portion for monitoring the wavelength of the laser diode are included in a package, and are mounted onto a thermo module. The wavelength monitor portion comprise at least an optical filter positioned to receive and filter at least a component of the laser beam and a light receiving device to receive the filtered light through the optical filter and monitor a wavelength of the laser beam. A heat shield member for reducing heat transmission from the package to the wavelength monitor portion is arranged in at least one portion of a peripheral area of the wavelength monitor portion.

A transmitting device includes a light-emitting device for outputting a laser beam, a temperature regulator for regulating the temperature in the light-emitting device, a wavelength monitor device for receiving the laser beam from the light-emitting device after it has passed through a optical filter thermally coupled with the light-emitting device, a control unit for controlling the temperature in the temperature regulator based on the signal outputted from the wavelength monitor device such that the lasing wavelength in the laser beam outputted from the light-emitting device will be locked at a predetermined locked wavelength, a temperature-sensing unit for sensing the temperature in the optical filter, and a correcting unit for outputting a correction signal toward the control unit based on the temperature sensed by the temperature-sensing unit, the correction signal being operative to command the correction of any deviation in the locked wavelength associated with the temperature characteristic in the optical filter. The light-emitting device, wavelength monitor device, temperature regulator and optical fiber together define an optical module.

Optical module, transmitter and WDM transmitting device

An optical module includes a light-emitting device that outputs laser light, a temperature detection unit that is arranged in proximity to the light-emitting device and detects the temperature of the light-emitting device, a wavelength monitor unit that receives laser light outputted from the light-emitting device and having passed through an optical filter and monitors the wavelength of the laser light, and a temperature adjustment unit that adjusts the wavelength of laser light outputted from the light-emitting device based on a signal outputted from the wavelength monitor unit. The temperature adjustment unit adjusts the wavelength of the laser light so as to fall within a wavelength range, in which the wavelength is adjustable by the wavelength monitor unit, based on a signal from the temperature detection unit, and then adjusts the wavelength of the laser light so as to be locked at a predetermined wavelength based on the signal from the wavelength monitor unit. The signal from the temperature detection unit is used to correct lock wavelength shift caused by the temperature characteristic of the optical filter by estimating the temperature of the optical filter based on the temperature of the light-emitting device.
