Disclosed is an optical transmission module in which effects of conductive heat from sides of a metal case upon a thermistor are reduced, thereby allowing steady optical beam wavelengths to be obtained over a wide range of temperatures, regardless of the temperature of the usage environment. Specifically, the optical transmission module includes Peltier elements disposed inside a metal case, a metal base disposed upon the Peltier elements, a laser diode substrate disposed upon the metal base, a laser diode disposed upon the laser diode substrate, a thermistor substrate disposed upon the metal base, a thermistor disposed upon the thermistor substrate, and a thermally conductive member, disposed in the vicinity of the thermistor, that has a height greater than the height of the thermistor.

Optical transmitter and optical communications device

A semiconductor chip on which a light receiving element is mounted, a preamplifier for amplifying an output signal from the light receiving element, and an insulating carrier substrate on which the light receiving element is mounted are connected such that the output signal from the light receiving element is input to the preamplifier through electrodes on the carrier substrate, and there are provided two electrodes, on the carrier substrate, having a capacitance value of 40 fF or more therebetween in a state where no light receiving element is mounted.

Optical receiver module

An optical transmitter module is described. The optical transmitter module includes a lead pin for electrically connecting the inside and outside of a housing, and a flexible printed circuit board connected to the lead pin. The flexible printed circuit board has a signal pattern and two ground conductor patterns to be connected to an optical modulation element, a laser terminal pattern to be connected to a semiconductor laser, a Peltier terminal pattern to be connected to a Peltier element, and two covering conductive layers in addition to a layer on which such patterns are formed. The covering conductive layers cover all the patterns except for the signal pattern.

Optical transmitter module

A transmission line with a bending portion is provided, which line comprises any one of a coplanar line, another coplanar waveguide line formed on the dielectric substrate under which a ground layer is provided and a coplanar strip line. A chamfered portion is provided on the outer angular portion of the bending portion of the signal wiring conductor and a triangular conductor is disposed to an inner angular portion thereof. Given that length of the chamfered portion is defined as a, and length of the wiring edge side of the triangular conductor is defined as b and width of the signal wiring conductor is defined as c, it is arranged such that a is greater than b+c&#xd7;square root of 2. Thereby, a transmission line or an optical module of smaller reflection loss at the bending portion thereof and of improved high-frequency characteristics is provided.

High-frequency transmission line and an optical module incorporating the same line

The present invention provides an optical transmission module configured such that a driver IC chip to drive a semiconductor laser device, a first insulation plate having the semiconductor laser device mounted thereon and a coupling optical component are mounted in this order, a thin film inductor element and thin film resistor element which are connected in parallel are formed on a second insulation plate and a bias current is supplied to the semiconductor laser device via this LR element.

Optical transmission module

An object of disclosed technology is to control lasing wavelengths so that a wavelength shift does not occurs. Another object is to permit wavelengths of a light source for wavelength division multiplexing optical-fiber communication system to be variable in response to an ITU-TS grid. A means for achieving the objects is as follows: locating an etalon in a light path of diode laser light, which is a parallel plane wave changed by a collimator lens; generating a wavelength error signal from a difference between both of divided pieces of light from transmitted light or reflected light; and locking a wavelength of a diode laser device according to the wavelength error signal.

Optical fiber communication equipment and its applied optical systems

The present invention provides an optical module, and an optical transmission line comprising the optical module. The optical module has a structure in which an optical-modulator-mounted carrier is formed of a semiconductor substrate; a transmission line on the carrier is formed of a coplanar waveguide; a transmission line for inputting a signal into the transmission line is formed on a dielectric substrate; the transmission line on the input side which is a grounded coplanar waveguide is coupled by a conversion line to the transmission line on the output side which is a coplanar waveguide; and an electrical connection between the transmission lines is made by use of a conductor wire.

Optical module and optical transmission apparatus

An optical coupling apparatus having a temperature control element on which a semiconductor light emitting element, a substrate and a lens are mounted, the semiconductor light emitting element being mounted on the substrate, and rays of light from the semiconductor light emitting element being introduced into the lens. A base on which the temperature control element is disposed, a through-hole portion formed in a housing wall portion installed on the base, penetrating through the housing wall portion and having a wall surface portion longer than a thickness of the housing wall portion and an optical fiber communicated with the through-hole portion and receiving converted light from the lens introduced thereto. The present invention provides an optical module and a method for manufacturing the optical module, in which a V-shaped or trapezoidal groove having a first slope and a second slope facing to the first slope is formed at the surface of a silicon substrate by anisotropic etching, an adhesive is applied to a portion of at least the second slope in a region except the first slope of the groove, and lens is fixedly put in the groove.

Optical module and method for manufacturing optical module

A smaller and higher performance optical transmitter module is provided, which can improve the reliability and which can be manufactured at lower costs and allow for stable laser transmission of an optical semiconductor element. The optical transmitter module which has an optical semiconductor element, an optical fiber optically coupled to the optical semiconductor element, an inline optical isolator provided for the optical fiber, and a package case containing the optical semiconductor element and the optical fiber, includes a substrate member with one end of the optical fiber on the light incident side fixed thereon to be optically coupled to the optical semiconductor element, a thermoelectric cooler with the substrate member joined to the top surface thereof, and a pipe-like support member projecting from the side face of the package case for fixing the optical isolator.

According to the present invention there are provided a transmission line and an optical module having the transmission line, the transmission line having on a dielectric substrate a first signal wiring conductor, a second signal wiring conductor insulated from the first signal wiring conductor, a first electrode disposed near the first and second signal wiring conductors, a second electrode disposed near the second signal wiring conductor, and a ground wiring conductor disposed in adjacency to the second electrode, wherein a passing frequency band can be changed by changing the connection of conductor wires.

Transmission line, optical module using the same and manufacturing method of optical module

In an optical coupling apparatus, an optical isolator and an optical fiber are arranged inside a pipe of a side surface of a package. A distal end of the optical fiber is arranged within a range of 3.0 mm from an inner/outer surface of the side surface of the package and a distance from a laser diode to the distal end is within a range from 3.5 to 7.5 mm. Distance from the inner side surface of the package to a Peltier device is within a range of 6.0 mm. A metallize pattern film applied to a terminal substrate of the package and the Peltier device are connected through wiring bonding and a connection position is closer to the optical fiber than a lead terminal provided to the terminal substrate of the package that corresponds to the Peltier device.

An optical amplifier including an input unit, a polarization maintaining optical amplifying unit, an exciting unit and an output unit. The input unit enables receiving a first signal light in a first polarization state and a second signal light in a second polarization state different from the first polarization state. The polarization maintaining optical amplifying unit includes a polarization maintaining optical amplifying medium enabling receiving the first and second signal lights with the first and second polarization states maintained as they are. The exciting unit provides first and second exiting lights having polarization states corresponding to the first and second lights, respectively, so that the polarization maintaining optical amplifying unit is capable of selectively amplifying the first and second signal lights, and the output unit enables receiving the first and second signal lights after being amplified by the polarization maintaining optical amplifying unit and outputting the amplified first and second signal lights to a transmission line.

Optical amplifier, optical amplifying method and optical transmission

An optical amplifier including an input unit, a polarization maintaining optical amplifying unit, an exciting unit and an output unit. The input unit enables receiving a first signal light in a first polarization state and a second signal light in a second polarization state different from the first polarization state. The polarization maintaining optical amplifying unit includes a polarization maintaining optical amplifying medium enabling receiving the first and second signal lights and amplifying the first and second signal lights with the first and second polarization states maintained as they are. The exciting unit provides first and second exciting lights having polarization states corresponding to the first and second signal lights, respectively, so that the polarization maintaining optical amplifying unit is capable of selectively amplifying the first and second signal lights, and the output unit enables receiving the first and second signal lights after being amplified by the polarization maintaining optical amplifying unit and outputting the amplified first and second signal lights to a transmission line.

An optical coupling system and optical module having a light emitting device for emitting light having different beam spread angles in vertical and horizontal directions. The optical coupling system and module include a first lens for changing the emitted light into parallel rays, a beam shaping and aberration correction device for expanding or contracting a beam cross section of the parallel rays only in a horizontal or vertical direction and for correcting for aberration. Further, a second lens is provided for converging the shaped aberration corrected beam onto an optical fiber for receiving the converged light with an improved coupling efficiency. The aberration correction corrects for astigmatism.
