A method for forming a dry coating film on a surface of an object to be coated including the steps of: setting a dry coating film thickness T not smaller than 300 &#x3bc;m; formulating or preparing a colored paint containing a binder resin and a color pigment and satisfying conditions that (a) a scaly pigment having a prescribed shape is further contained, (b) a content of the scaly pigment is from 5 to 45 volume % in components forming the coating film, (c) a coating film having the thickness T hides the surface, and (d) a color difference between the coating film having the thickness T and a coating film having a thickness of 0.7 T is not smaller than 2.0; coating the surface with the colored paint until the surface is hidden; and drying the coating film, as well as a paint used therefor are provided.
