In a catalytic converter having a catalyst support that generates heat by being energized, short circuiting due to soot within exhaust is suppressed. A catalyst support is provided in a range of a glass coat layer that is provided on an inner surface of a tube body. A maximum diameter portion of an upstream side reduced diameter member and a maximum diameter portion of a downstream tube are positioned in the range of the glass coat layer.

Catalytic converter

The present invention provides a highly durable, electrically heated catalytic converter including an inner tube on which an insulation layer is formed, wherein the insulation layer is less susceptible to damage such as cracking and peeling even when thermal stress occurs in a curvature section of the inner tube where the insulation layer is formed. The present invention provides an electrically heated catalytic converter for purifying exhaust gas, the electrically heated catalytic converter including a catalyst carrier supporting a catalyst and configured to generate heat by energization; a case for accommodating the catalyst carrier; and an electrical insulation mat interposed between the catalyst carrier and the case, wherein the case includes an outer tube disposed at the outermost side and an inner tube disposed inside the outer tube; in a cross section upstream of the catalyst carrier taken along a plane including the central axis of the case, the inner tube includes one or more curvature sections curved so as to outwardly project and extended sections connected to the one or more curvature sections, an insulation layer including an amorphous inorganic material is formed at least on an inner surface of the one or more curvature sections and the extended sections of the inner tube, the one or more curvature sections include a first curvature section located closest to the catalyst carrier, the first curvature section has a first curvature section insulation layer formed thereon, the first curvature section insulation layer having a thickness of 100 to 400 &#x3bc;m, the extended sections include a first extended section connected to the first curvature section and adjacent to the catalyst carrier, the first extended section has a first extended section insulation layer formed thereon, and the thickness of the first curvature section insulation layer is greater than 1 time to less than 1.4 times the thickness of the first extended section insulation layer.

Electrically heated catalytic converter

[Object] Provided is a thermoelectric power generating device that is able to decrease thermal distortion of thermoelectric conversion modules and to upsize the thermoelectric conversion modules, thereby making it possible to simplify a manufacturing operation and to decrease a manufacturing cost. A thermoelectric power generating device () is configured to include: a body case () accommodating therein thermoelectric conversion modules (); an exhaust-pipe portion () provided in the body case () so as to be opposed to heat-receiving substrates () of the thermoelectric conversion modules (); a steam tank () attached to an outer side of the body case () so as to be opposed to heat-dissipation substrates () of the thermoelectric conversion modules (); a steam tank () provided above the body case (); thermoelectric conversion modules () provided above the steam tank () so that heat-dissipation substrates () thereof are opposed to the steam tank (); and a cooling water tank () provided above the thermoelectric conversion modules () so as to be opposed to heat-receiving substrates () of the thermoelectric conversion modules ().

Thermoelectric power generating device

A decrease in cost is devised at an exhaust treatment device that purifies exhaust from an internal engine by a catalyst that is heated from a catalyst support that generates heat by being energized, and that returns some of exhaust that has been purified to the internal combustion engine. A cooling member is provided at a portion of an exhaust pipe that is between an engine and an upstream catalytic converter, and a circulation pipe is branched-off from between the upstream catalytic converter and a vibration cut-off member that is at a downstream side.

Exhaust treatment device

The present invention provides a highly durable, electrically heated catalytic converter including an insulation layer formed on an inner tube, wherein the insulation layer is less susceptible to cracking and peeling even when high thermal stress occurs in the insulation layer at and near the end portion of an inner tube, at upstream of a catalyst carrier. An electrically heated catalytic converter for purifying exhaust gas includes a catalyst carrier supporting a catalyst and configured to generate heat by energization; a case for accommodating the catalyst carrier; and an electrical insulation mat interposed between the catalyst carrier and the case, wherein the case includes an outer tube disposed at the outermost side and an inner tube disposed inside the outer tube; in a cross section upstream of the catalyst carrier taken along a plane including the central axis of the case, the inner tube is curved at least once so as to outwardly project and then obliquely extends toward the central axis of the case, an insulation layer having a thickness of 100 to 200 &#x3bc;m is formed in the range from an end portion of the inner tube to 10% of the length of the inner tube from the end portion of the inner tube to an end of the catalyst carrier, an insulation layer having a thickness of 100 to 400 &#x3bc;m is formed in the range from a point immediately after 10% of the length away from the end portion of the inner tube to 50% of the length of the inner tube from the end portion to the end of the catalyst carrier, and the insulation layer formed in the range from the end portion of the inner tube to 10% of the length is thinner than the insulation layer formed in the range from a point immediately after 10% of the length away from the end portion of the inner tube to 50% of the length.

The present invention provides a highly durable, electrically heated catalytic converter having a relatively simple structure while its inner tube is curved toward the central axis, wherein an insulation layer formed on the inner tube is less susceptible to cracking and peeling even when the inner tube is subjected to temperature changes or temperature gradients. An electrically heated catalytic converter for purifying exhaust gas includes a catalyst carrier supporting a catalyst and configured to generate heat by energization; a case for accommodating the catalyst carrier; and an electrical insulation mat interposed between the catalyst carrier and the case, wherein the case includes an outer tube disposed at the outermost side and an inner tube disposed inside the outer tube; in a cross section upstream of the catalyst carrier taken along a plane including the central axis of the case, the inner tube includes a first curved portion and a second curved portion formed in this order from the side closer to the catalyst carrier, the first curved portion is curved so as to outwardly project and the second curved portion is curved in the direction opposite to the curvature of the first curved portion so as to project toward the central axis, the second curved portion has a curvature radius larger than that of the first curved portion, and an insulation layer is formed on at least one portion of the inner tube.

An exhaust heat recovery control device includes a recovered heat adjusting unit configured to adjust an amount of heat recovered of exhaust gas by an exhaust heat recoverer recovering heat of exhaust gas and a control unit configured to control the recovered heat adjusting unit so as to prevent or suppress freezing in an exhaust pipe based on a traveling history of a vehicle on which the exhaust heat recovery control device is mounted when the freezing in the exhaust pipe is predicted.

A silencing apparatus for a vehicle includes: a muffler () having a flattened sectional shape; an inlet pipe (); an outlet pipe (); and at least one partition plate () that divides the inside of the muffler () into a plurality of sound-deadening chambers. Each of the at least one partition plate () has at least one communication hole. Within the muffler (), at least one among an opening of the inlet pipe (), an opening of the outlet pipe (), and the at least one communication hole is disposed at a position that is apart by a length equal to a half of the width of the muffler () from one end of the muffler () in the width direction thereof, and at least one among them is disposed at a position that is apart by a length equal to a quarter of the width from one end of the muffler () in the width direction.

Silencing apparatus for vehicle

An exhaust gas apparatus suppresses sound pressure level from increasing, and reducing its weight and production cost without need of a sub-muffler in a tail pipe and a sound deadening device having an air column resonance of a large capacity provided at the upstream opened end of the tail pipe. The exhaust gas apparatus is provided with an exhaust gas pipe, an upstream opened end connected to the sound deadening device positioned at the upstream side of an exhaust gas discharging direction, and a downstream opened end through which the exhaust gas is discharged to the atmosphere. A plate is provided at least one of the upstream opened end and the downstream opened end in opposing relationship with the exhaust gas discharging direction, and formed with an opened portion. The exhaust gas pipe is formed at its peripheral wall axially inwardly spaced apart from the plate with a through bore.

Exhaust gas apparatus of an internal combustion engine

An exhaust gas apparatus of an internal combustion engine is capable of suppressing the sound pressure level from being increased by the air column resonance in the tail pipe. The exhaust gas apparatus being provided with an exhaust gas pipe at the downstream side of an internal combustion engine in the exhaust gas direction of an exhaust gas flow, the exhaust gas pipe having an upstream opening end at one end portion thereof and connected with a sound deadening device at the upstream side in the exhaust gas direction of the exhaust gas flow, and a downstream opening end at the other end portion thereof for exhausting the exhaust gas flow to the atmosphere.

Exhaust apparatus of internal combustion engine

An exhaust apparatus for internal combustion engines which can reduce exhaust noises, its weight and production cost with no need to provide a sub-muffler. The exhaust apparatus is provided with an inner pipe having the upstream open end and the downstream open end is disposed in the tail pipe, and the upstream open end of the inner pipe is protruded outwardly from the inside of the tail pipe to be extended into the resonance chamber, and thus the upstream open end is closed by the resonance chamber defined by the outer shell of the muffler, the end plate, and the partition plate.

A tail pipe part includes a tail pipe to constitute part of the tail pipe, and has a hollow member connected with the tail pipe in axial alignment with the tail pipe to be positioned within an area covering a node portion in a sound pressure distribution of an air column resonance caused in the tail pipe, and a short pipe included in the hollow member and having a predetermined length to extend in the axial direction of the tail pipe, the short pipe having an open end at the upstream end thereof and a closed end at the downstream end thereof, the closed end being constituted by a bottom plate positioned at almost the same position as that of the node portion in the sound pressure distribution of a standing wave formed by the air column resonance caused in the tail pipe.

Exhaust pipe part and exhaust apparatus for internal combustion engine

A muffler has a casing with a plurality of sound-muffling chambers, exhaust pipes that pass through at least two sound-muffling chambers and to pass through exhaust from an engine, a plurality of apertures provided in each exhaust pipe, and a plurality of valves provided in each of the apertures. In this muffler, the plurality of apertures are provided at the locations at which an exhaust flow from one aperture and an exhaust flow from another aperture do not interfere with each other. When there are two apertures, the apertures are provided at positions in the exhaust pipes at which the apertures do not face each other. For this reason, by avoiding interference between exhaust flows from the two apertures, it is possible to suppress an abnormal sound caused by the interference.
