An example computing device includes a touch screen display; wireless communication circuitry; one or more processors; and memory for storing a browser program for displaying web pages on the touch screen display. The one or more processors are configured to execute the browser program to control the computing device to at least: display, on the touch screen display, web pages accessed via the wireless communication circuitry; receive either a first input or a second input to the touch screen, wherein the second input is different from the first input and an initial touch on the touch screen for the first input and for the second input is a link on the displayed web page; in response to the first input, perform a first operation; and in response to the second input, perform a second operation, different from the first operation.

Computing device and browser for same

An example computing device includes a touch screen display; wireless communication circuitry; one or more processors; and memory for storing a browser program for displaying web pages on the touch screen display. The one or more processors are configured to execute the browser program to control the computing device to at least: display, on the touch screen display, web pages accessed via the wireless communication circuitry; and display, on the touch screen display, a pop-up menu concurrently with a displayed web page. The pop-up menu includes at least a first touch image for displaying a previous web page, a second touch image for displaying a next web page, a third touch image for accessing a process to display a bookmarked web page and a fourth touch image for accessing a process to bookmark a web page.

An application such as a web browser running on a portable display device is responsive to gestures to a touch-sensitive surface of the portable display device. The gestures are supplied by touching and then sliding on the touch-sensitive surface. Various operations of the application may be controlled based on the gestures.

Gesture inputs for a portable display device

An input position processing program detects a series of pieces of position data based on input positions outputted from a pointing device, and defines a reference position. When the last piece of position data indicates a point within a defined area other than a reference area, an operation is to be performed determined based on a direction that extends from the reference position to the defined area indicated by the last piece of position data. When an intermediate piece of position data indicates a point within a defined area other than the reference area and the last piece of position data indicates a point within the reference area, the operation to be performed is determined based on the combination of directions representing a reciprocal movement between the reference position and the defined area indicated by the intermediate piece of position data.
