The invention provides a system that associates data files with one another effectively to visually represent a relation among the data files and allows a user to easily understand relationship of contents of the data files. The system determines whether there is a parent data file for a selected retrieval object data file with reference to a contract association table and, if the parent data file is present, changes the retrieval object to the parent data file and repeats the processing. If the parent data file is not present, the system stores a present retrieval object data file as display data, that is, store a top data file as display data. Then, the system retrieves all data files associated with the top data file, stores the data files as display data, generates a relation diagram of the data files, and transmits the relation diagram to a user terminal.

An image input apparatus includes an image data generating unit, a data transfer unit and a control unit. The image data generating unit generates high resolution image data if the image input apparatus is in a high-resolution image mode, and generates low resolution image data if the image input apparatus is in a low resolution image mode. The data transfer unit tranfers the high resolution image data to an external device in an asynchronous or bulk transfer mode, and transfers the low resolution image data to the external device in an isochronous transfer mode. It is an object of the present invention to provide an excellent image reading apparatus that realizes miniaturization and reduces a total reading time at the time of reading a transparent original and, in addition, improves operability. An optical waveguide chip including a core portion as an optical waveguide, a clad portion composed of a lower clad layer and an upper clad layer, and an optical fiber guide portion which is formed integrally with the clad portion for positioning a single-mode optical fiber which is to be connected with the core portion. Each portion of the optical waveguide chip is formed by creating a layer of a radiation-sensitive polysiloxane composition by photolithography. The invention provides an encoding method applicable to the sub band encoding of an image of any resolution or size. For example, by designating the resolution or size of an input digital image and determining the number of levels of the sub band encoding according to thus designated resolution or size, the decoding can be easily achieved to provide an image which is not much different in resolution or in size.

Provided is an image input apparatus in which changeover between sensing and transfer of low-resolution images such as moving images and high-resolution images such as still images can be performed smoothly during image sensing and data transfer operations. A loop control apparatus for controlling general process control such as control of the temperature of water supply comprises an interpreter for interpreting input information in the form of trains of characters to provide instrument information and a compiler for interpreting the train of character and compiling therefrom operational equation information. The trains of characters are inputted from an external general purpose computer as a man-machine interface through a serial interface provided within the loop control apparatus, and are subjected to word analysis and syntax analysis by the interpreter and the compiler. Loop control function information produced through the word and syntax analysis is stored into a memory means. Once the instrument design and the operational design have been completed, the interface computer is not needed and can thus be used for other jobs not related to the system under control. When controlling the system, a control means processes the process values of the system in accordance with the loop control function information to provide manipulate values to thereby perform the loop control of said system.

An apparatus for drying and conditioning tobacco leaves, including a heater for heating conditioning air for conditioning tobacco leaves after drying, a temperature controller for controlling the heater so that the temperature of the conditioning air becomes a preset temperature, an atomized water sprayer for cooling the conditioning air fed to the heater, a humidifier for humidifying the conditioning air, and a humidity controller for detecting the moisture content of the tobacco leaves after drying and conditioning and controlling the humidifier so that the moisture content of the tobacco leaves becomes a target moisture content. The humidity controller is so constructed as to control the humidifier on the basis of a wet-bulb temperature. Saving of heat energy can be attained, and because a cooling chamber is not needed, the apparatus can be made compact and it becomes easier to stabilize a target moisture content.
