A cutting insert may include a base member. The base member may include a first surface, a second surface adjacent to the first surface, and a first cutting edge located in at least a part of a first ridge line which the first surface intersects with the second surface. The base member may include a hard phase containing a titanium carbonitride, and a binding phase containing at least one of cobalt and nickel. The hard phase may include a first hard phase observed on a higher angle side, and a second hard phase observed on a lower angle side in a comparison of () plane peak in an X-ray diffraction analysis. A compressive residual stress of the second hard phase in the second surface may be less than a compressive residual stress of the second hard phase in the first surface.

Cutting insert and cutting tool

A cermet () includes a bonding phase () and a hard phase (). The hard phase () includes: a first hard phase () composed of TiCN; and a second hard phase () composed of a composite carbonitride of Ti, which is greater than the average particle diameter of the first hard phase (). The cermet () further includes an aggregate part () formed by interlinking parts of the second hard phase (). The second hard phase () forming the aggregate part () includes a 2a-th hard phase () having a maximum W content of an inner part thereof that is more than 1.1 times as great as an average W content of an outer circumferential part thereof, in terms of mass ratio. The aggregate part () composes a proportion of from 20% to 60% of the cermet () in terms of surface area.

Cermet, and method for manufacturing same, as well as cutting tool

A cermet and a cutting tool are provided which have high wear resistance and high fracture resistance at a cutting edge even in a mode of cutting where the cutting edge comes to have a high temperature. A cermetincludes a hard phaseincluding a carbonitride of one or more kinds of metals selected from Group 4, Group 5, and Group 6 metals of the periodic table including at least Ti and a binder phasecontaining W and at least one kind of a metal selected from Co and Ni, wherein the binder phaseincludes a first binder phasein which a mass ratio of W to a total amount of Co and Ni (W/(Co+Ni)) is 0.8 or less and a second binder phasein which a mass ratio of W to a total amount of Co and Ni (W/(Co+Ni)) is 1.2 or more.

Cermet and cutting tool

A cutting tool composed of a sintered cermet body is disclosed. The body includes hard phases composed of carbide(s), nitride(s), and carbonitride(s) of metal(s) selected from metals belonging to Groups 4, 5, and 6 of the periodic table including Ti as a main component, and includes first and second hard phases, and a binding phase mainly composed of at least one of Co and Ni. The body includes first and second faces, a cutting edge located at an edge of the first and second faces, and an interior portion located at a depth of 400 &#x3bc;m or more from the first face. When residual stresses are measured by a 2D method, stress of the first hard phase is 80 MPa or more in terms of compressive stress. Stresses of the second hard phase and the binding phase are &#x2212;50 MPa to 50 Mpa in terms of compressive or tensile stress.

Cutting tool

A hard alloy and a cutting tool. The hard alloy includes a hard phase and a binder phase. The hard phase includes: a main phase containing 50-70 mass % of WC, 15-30 mass % of TiCN, and 0-10 mass % of at least one kind of carbide, nitride or carbonitride of one or more non-W, non-Ti periodic table Group 4, 5 or 6 metal; a WC phase; and a composite hard phase. The binder phase includes 6 to 12 mass % of at least one of Co and Ni. The hard alloy includes a surface portion at a surface thereof, the surface portion having a WC content higher than that of an internal portion thereof. An average size of grains in the WC phase in the surface portion is larger than an average size of grains in the WC phase in the internal portion.

Hard alloy and cutting tool

A sintered cermet and a cutting tool are provided which have high toughness and high anti-chipping. The sintered cermet comprises a hard phase composed of one or more kinds selected from carbides, nitrides, and carbonitrides of one or more metals selected from metals belonging to Groups 4, 5, and 6 of the periodic table, each of which is composed mainly of Ti; and a binder phase composed mainly of Ni and Co. When the crystal lattice constant of the binder phase is measured by Pawley method, two kinds of binder phases having two kinds of crystal lattice constants B1 and B2 exist in the interior of the sintered cermet. Alternatively, two peaks belonging to the (220) plane of the hard phase, namely, a low-angle-side-peak and a high-angle-side peak are detected in the interior of the sintered cermet, and a modified part exists in the vicinity of the surface, in which three peaks belonging to the (220) plane of the hard phase, namely, the low-angle-side peak, an intermediate-position peak, and the high-angle-side peak are detected.

Sintered cermet and cutting tool

A sintered cermet of a rotary tool has a hard phase with a first hard phase and a second hard phase comprising a carbide, a nitride, and a carbonitride of at least one of group 4, 5, and 6 metals of the periodic table of which metals the metal titanium is a main component. The result of an X-ray diffraction measurement in a surface region of the sintered cermet provides a first peak intensity Ib on a high angle side that is attributable to a (220) plane of the first hard phase and a second peak intensity Ia on a low-angle side that is attributable to a (220) plane of the second hard phase, and an intensity ratio Ib/Ia of the first peak intensity Ib to the second peak intensity Ia is in the range of 0.5 to 1.5.

Rotation tool

Provided is a cutting tool which comprises a sintered cermet having high toughness and thermal shock resistance. The cutting tool, namely a tip, comprises a sintered cermet comprising: a hard phasecomprising one or more selected from among carbides, nitrides, and carbonitrides which comprise mainly Ti; and a binder phasecomprising mainly at least one of Co and Ni. The tiphas a cutting edgelying along an intersecting ridge portion between a rake faceand a flank face, and a nose. The hard phasecomprises a first hard phaseand a second hard phase. When a residual stress is measured on the rake faceby 2D method, a residual stress &#x3c3;] of the first hard phasein a direction (&#x3c3;direction), which is parallel to the rake faceand goes from the center of the rake faceto the nose being the closest to a measuring point, is 50 MPa or below in terms of compressive stress (&#x3c3;]=&#x2212;50 to 0 MPa), and a residual stress &#x3c3;] of the second hard phasein the &#x3c3;direction is 150 MPa or above in terms of compressive stress (&#x3c3;]&#x2266;&#x2212;150 MPa).

A Ti-based cermetincludes at least one of Co and Ni, at least one of titanium carbide, titanium nitride and titanium carbonitride including at least one selected from the metal elements of groups 4, 5 and 6 of the periodic table, and Ru.

Ti-based cermet

A cutting tool having a substrate and a coating layer for coating the surface of the substrate, the coating layer being composed of TiAlWSiM(CN), where M is at least one selected from Nb, Mo, Ta, Hf and Y, 0.45&#x2266;a&#x2266;0.55, 0.01&#x2266;b&#x2266;0.1, 0.01&#x2266;c&#x2266;0.05, 0.01&#x2266;d&#x2266;0.1, and 0&#x2266;x&#x2266;1. The cutting tool has excellent wear resistance and fracture resistance. The cutting tool may be further provided with a layer composed of at least one selected from carbides, nitrides and carbonitrides of Al and the elements of the groups 4, 5 and 6 of the periodic table.
