Disclosed herein is a technique for providing an engine supercharger allowing an exhaust gas to efficiently act on a turbine in a wide operating range. A turbine for use in a supercharger includes a turbine housing, a turbine scroll formed inside the housing continuously with a turbine lead-in route, and a turbine wheel to turn on an axis of rotation close to a tongue portion. The turbine lead-in route is partitioned by a partition wall into first and second lead-in routes. Exhaust variable valves are provided upstream of the second lead-in route in order to change the flow rate of the exhaust gas to be introduced. When viewed in the direction in which the axis of rotation extends, a downstream end of the partition is aligned with the axis of rotation and the tongue portion.

Engine supercharger

An exhaust device is configured to flow exhaust gas to be discharged from each of cylinders of an engine body. The engine body includes the cylinders arrayed in a row. The exhaust device includes an exhaust passage extending in the cylinder array direction; an exhaust outlet portion connected to an end of the exhaust passage in the cylinder array direction; a supercharger disposed at an end of the engine body in the cylinder array direction, and connected to the exhaust outlet portion; a lateral exhaust pipe connected to the supercharger, and disposed along a lateral surface of the engine body in the cylinder array direction; and an exhaust gas purification device disposed midway in the lateral exhaust pipe.

Exhaust device for supercharged engine

There is provided a method of controlling an engine system having an internal combustion engine, a supercharger arranged in an intake air passage of said internal combustion engine and a motor capable of driving the supercharger. The method comprises, driving the motor to operate the supercharger to boost airflow inducted into the internal combustion engine when the internal combustion engine is in operation. The method further comprises driving the motor to determine a state of the supercharger when the internal combustion engine is stopped and indicating the determined state of the supercharger. According to the method, by driving the motor of the supercharger to detect a state of the supercharger when the internal combustion engine is stopped, the state of the supercharger can be more accurately detected because the condition is most stable.
