A seat-occupant restraining apparatus is provided which includes a bag, accommodated in a shoulder belt, for restraining a seat occupant in a seat, and when a vehicle collides, expands the bag with a high-pressure gas produced by an inflator. A relief valve, which opens according to an increase in the internal pressure of the bag, is provided in a gas passage for supplying the high-pressure gas from the inflator to the bag. If the bag is completely expanded by the high-pressure gas from the inflator and the internal pressure of the bag reaches an appropriate value, the relief valve opens and discharges an extra high-pressure gas from the bag, whereby the internal pressure of the bag can be controlled to the appropriate value without causing variations. According to the above-described constriction, it is possible to realize a stable air vent function superior to that of a vent hole, without providing a vent hole in the bag of an air belt assembly.

Seat-occupant restraining apparatus

A portion of a shoulder belt,of an air belt apparatus touching the breast portion of an occupant is composed of an inflatable rubber bag,shaped like a tube, a webbing,for covering the outside of the bag,so that tension is produced in case of a car collision, and a pad,for further covering the outside of the webbing,The pad,has a three-layer structure: the outermost layer is made from raised cloth,such as moquette, or the like, which feels pleasant to the touch; the intermediate layer is made from an urethane sheet,having elasticity; and the innermost layer is made from base cloth,for protecting the urethane sheet,The pad,has rifts,extending longitudinally. The pad,and an elastic element,made of a belt-like rubber sheet are sewed together with stitches,so that the rifts,and,are connected to each other. When the bag,is inflated in case of a car collision, the webbing,is inflated by the pressure of the bag,Further, the elastic element,is stretched and the pad,is inflated. As a result, the shoulder belt,is inflated as a whole. Accordingly, it is possible to improve the feeling given by a belt of an air belt apparatus.

Air belt apparatus

In an occupant protecting device including an expandable bag housed within a belt for holding back an occupant upon collision of a vehicle, an outlet opening,in a buckle-side duct,and an inlet opening,in a tongue-side duct,are opposed to each other through a gap &agr;, and a seal member,made of a rubber and integrally provided with an outer lip portion,and an inner breakable portion,is mounted to the outlet opening,. When a gas generated by an inflater upon collision of the vehicle is supplied to the buckle-side duct, the breakable portion,of the seal member,is broken to bring the lip portion,into close contact with the inlet opening,, so that the gas is supplied from the buckle-side duct,through the tongue-side duct,to a shoulder belt, thereby expanding a bag housed in the shoulder belt. Thus, it is possible to easily and reliably perform the sealing of a gas passage in a connection between a buckle,and a tongue

Occupant protecting device

A seat-occupant restraining apparatus for a vehicle is provided that includes both an air bag and air bag inflator and an air belt and air belt inflator. An ignition controller controls the ignition of both the air bag and air belt inflators. An acceleration sensor is included. The ignition controller calculates the magnitude of the shock of collision, based on input from the acceleration sensor at the time of a collision of the vehicle by integrating the acceleration over a preset time, and the magnitude of the shock is compared with a first and second threshold, both of which are stored in advance. If the calculated shock is less than the first threshold, the ignition controller does not output an ignition signal to either the air bag or the air belt. For shocks between the two threshold values, the air belt assembly is operated. For shocks greater than the second threshold, both the air belt and the air bag are activated.

To enhance an external appearance of a buckle-side duct and to prevent the entry of dust into an opening in the buckle-side duct in an occupant protecting device including an expandable bag accommodated within a belt for holding back an occupant upon collision of a vehicle, an outlet opening defined in a tip end of the buckle-side duct and turned outwards of a vehicle body is connected with inlet openings defined in a tip end of a tongue-side duct and turned inwards of the vehicle body. A gas generated by an inflater upon collision of the vehicle is supplied from the buckle-side duct via the tongue-side duct to a shoulder belt to expand the bag accommodated in the shoulder belt. The outlet opening in the buckle-side duct opens sideways away from the occupant sitting in a seat, rather than upwards. Therefore, the outlet opening is not directly visible to the occupant, leading to the enhanced external appearance. Also, when there is no lid in the outlet opening it is difficult for dust to enter through the outlet opening.

A table for use in a motor vehicle having a cargo room includes a top plate for use as a lid for the cargo room and legs pivotally mounted on the reverse side of the top plate. When the table is removed from the cargo room and the legs are projected from the top plate, the table is used as a table per se. The top plate can be closed with respect to the cargo room by a lock. A flexible tubular member is mounted on the reverse side of the top plate and extends away from the lock along the top plate. A string extends through the flexible tubular member and out of an opposite end thereof, and has an intermediate portion engaged by a holder on the reverse side of the top plate. The string has a distal end connected to a hook which is normally inserted and stored between the flexible tubular member and the top plate. The string is also stored on the reverse side of the top plate without being entangled by the lock.

A module case is provided in which an air bag module is housed. The air bag module is arranged inside of a seat back of a seat of a motor vehicle and the lid of the module case is opened by a pressure of an air bag which inflates at the side collision of the motor vehicle, so as to deploy the air bag from the lid into a passenger compartment of the vehicle. Even when the lid has become unopenable due to the depression thereof by a door deformed by the shock of the collision, tear lines formed in a case body of the module case are torn to turn a front wall of the case body in a direction towards the front of the vehicle, and hence, the air bag can be deployed from the front wall part of the case body into the passenger compartment without hindrance.

Air bag apparatus

A tilting structure for tilting a motor vehicle seat has a seat having a seat cushion, a tilting mechanism disposed underneath the seat cushion for tilting the seat cushion upwardly about a front end thereof to hold the seat cushion and a backrest aligned with each other in a fully flat configuration when the backrest is tilted down rearward, a joint device separably connecting a rear end of the seat cushion to the tilting mechanism, and a cover disposed between the seat cushion and the tilting mechanism and covering the tilting mechanism. The tilting structure can maintain the seat cushion and the backrest fully flat in alignment with each other, and also can tilt the seat cushion up forward.

Tilting structure for motor vehicle seat

A seat structure for a vehicle includes a center seat that is slidable in the front-rear direction of the vehicle along a predetermined path extending through front and rear seat rows between respective left and right seats of the seat rows separated from each other transversely to the travelling direction of the vehicle. A console box is provided rearwardly of the center seat and slidable in the front-rear direction of the vehicle. The console box includes an armrest pivotable relative to the body of the box. The console box is located in an area defined by the left and right seats of the rear seat row when these seats are inclined rearward.

Seat structure for a vehicle

A sewing section for integrally sewing three members (a front cover member 23 covering a front surface of a seat back, a side cover member 24 covering a side of the seat back, and a ball edge 27 clamped between both the cover members 23 and 24) is comprised of a final sewing portion 26.sub.2 for integrally sewing the front and side cover members 23 and 24 and the ball edge 27 at a location nearer a body portion 27.sub.1 of the ball edge 27, and a temporary sewing portion 26.sub.1 for integrally sewing the front cover member 23 and the ball edge 27 at a location farther from the body portion 27.sub.1 of the ball edge 27. When an air bag is expanded, the final sewing portion 26.sub.2 is broken, and the ball edge 27 is separated from the side cover member 24 and moved in unison with the front cover member 23. Thus, when the air bag used upon side collision of a vehicle and mounted within a seat is deployed, the ball edge in the sewing section 26 is prevented from interfering with the air bag.

A table device for a vehicle comprises a table body, a support mechanism for attaching to a side of a vehicle seat for pivotally supporting the table body, a linkage mechanism provided between the table body and the support mechanism for facilitating maintaining of the table body in a horizontal state during use of the table body and facilitating collapsing of the table body after use of the table body, and an operating mechanism for operating the linkage mechanism.

An anchor device for a seat belt for connecting, to a vehicle, a webbing for restraining an occupant to a seat so that a load applied to the webbing is received by the vehicle body. The anchor device includes a frame on which an anchor for locking the webbing is supported, a shock absorbing member which is secured at one end to the frame and at the other end to the vehicle body and which is capable of being deformed by a load applied to the frame, and a coupling member for coupling a portion of the shock absorbing member near the other end to the frame. The coupling member is broken or deformed by the load applied to the frame to separate the frame and the shock absorbing member from each other. Thus, when a load is applied from the webbing to the anchor of the seat belt, the anchor is moved properly to absorb the shock.

A cup holding apparatus has a cup holder for holding a cup, a containing portion for containing therein the cup holder, and a hinged lid provided on a base portion which constitutes the containing portion such that the cup holder can be held between the lid and the base portion when the lid is closed. A first link is rotatably connected at one end thereof to the base portion and is rotatably connected at the other end thereof to a first pivot portion which is provided on the cup holder. A second link is rotatably connected at one end thereof to the lid and is rotatably connected at the other end thereof to a second pivot portion which is provided on the cup holder away from the first pivot portion. A link mechanism which has the cup holder as an intermediate link is thus constituted to take the cup holder into or out of the containing portion by the closing or opening operation of the lid.
