A cold cathode fluorescent lamp for a backlight of a liquid crystal display device includes a light-transmitting glass tube in which a rare gas and mercury are sealed, and a phosphor film which is formed on an inner peripheral surface of the glass tube. The phosphor film is formed such that a phosphor suspension is formed by mixing phosphors into a suspension produced by strongly stirring a mixed solvent made of butyl acetate and nitrocellulose and by re-stirring the mixture, and the phosphor suspension is applied to the inner peripheral surface of the glass tube by coating.

According to one aspect of the present invention, it is possible to sufficiently perform the discharging of charge without lowering the light emitting efficiency of an organic EL device and hence, the device can exhibit the light emitting efficiency higher than a conventional organic EL device and, at the same time, can prevent the degradation of the device. As an organic EL device to which the present invention is applied, on a glass transparent substrate, a transparent electrode, a hole injection layer and a hole transport layer which function as a hole transport function layer, a light emitting layer, an electron transport function layer, and a metal electrode are formed sequentially, and a drive power sources are connected to the transparent electrode and the metal electrode. Method of driving organic EL device and display device

To provide an imaging device that shows high resolution and high luminance and produces good-quality images, an imaging device includes phosphor layer having a thickness of 40 &#x3bc;m or less and containing a phosphor having a composition represented by chemical formula: YTbScSiO, wherein 'x' and 'y' are atomic ratios and satisfy the following conditions: 0&#x3c;x&#x2266;1 and 0&#x3c;y&#x2266;1. The phosphor preferably has a strongest diffraction peak at diffraction angle 2&#x3b8; of 30.65&#xb0; to 30.9&#xb0; in X-ray diffraction for better properties. The phosphor can be prepared by firing a mixture of a compound containing Y, Sc, and Tb with a compound containing Si.

In a cathode ray tube including a phosphor film, a faceplate panel which constitutes a screen, an aluminum vapor-deposited film, a funnel and an electron gun, phosphor which constitutes the phosphor film applied to the faceplate panel is constituted of a terbium activated phosphor which is produced by substituting a portion of yttrium (Y) in base material crystals which contain zinc (Zn), yttrium (Y), silicon (Si) and oxygen (O) as main constitutional elements with terbium ion (Tb) and a trace amount of rare earth element ion is added to the terbium activated phosphor.
