Time elapsed from the time when the sensor cover is opened and power supply to the fingerprint sensor is turned from off to on is counted and when there is no fingerprint image read-in command within a specified period of time power supply to the fingerprint sensor is turned off. Even if power supply to the fingerprint sensor is turned off, when a fingerprint image read-in command executes power supply to the fingerprint sensor is turned on and read-in of a fingerprint image commences. A subscriber information storing module is fixedly and internally housed within a mobile station, which is provided with an interface which permits an IC card storing subscriber information to be loaded. When a power supply is turned on, if a module is not loaded into the interface, subscriber information in the internally housed module is used to perform an activation processing for the mobile station. When an IC card is loaded into the interface, an examination is made to see if the subscriber number of the IC card and the subscriber number of the mobile station coincide, and if they coincide, the internally housed module is disabled, and subscriber information of the IC card is used.

A control channel is searched for call waiting in a mobile station where the power supply for a receiving circuit is turned off during a break time of receiving level measurements, wherein in a first control channel selection mode, all the control channels are divided into a plurality of groups, the receiving levels of the control channels are measured group by group intermittently and sequentially. The intermittent measurement of these groups are repeated until a control channel having a receiving level equal to or greater than a first predetermined value is detected. When a receiving level equal to or greater than the first predetermined value is detected, the receiving levels of all the control channels are measured in a second control channel selection mode.
