A substrate for use in a liquid crystal display, including an insulating substrate cooperating with an oppositely arranged opposite substrate to hold a liquid crystal. A plurality of pixel regions are arranged on the insulating substrate in a matrix form, in each of which a switching element is formed. At least one resin color filter layer is formed on the pixel regions to cover the switching element. Additionally, at least one layer of the resin color filter layers of the plural colors has a cruciform-shaped pattern protruding to cover the switching elements of neighboring pixels when viewed in a direction of a normal of a substrate surface.

Substrate for use in a liquid crystal display having a patterned resin color filter layer

A LCD panel is disclosed that provides improved performance of the frame area that surrounds the panel's display area. The frame area includes a transparent substrate, and color filters provided side-by-side on the transparent substrate, each of the color filters filtering one of at least two colors. The LCD panel is further constituted by a first electrode that counters the color filters, a second electrode that counters the first electrode, and liquid crystal that is inserted between the electrodes. Display spots are suppressed and the frame can appear in a desired color when the panel is in operation.

The invention relates to a substrate for use in a liquid crystal display of a CF-on-TFT structure in which a color filter is formed on the side of an array substrate in which a switching element is formed, and has an object to provide a substrate for use in a liquid crystal display, which enables simplification of a manufacturing process typified by a photolithography process and has high reliability. A plurality of control and data bus lines are formed on the surface of an insulating substrate. A pixel electrode and a switching element are formed at an area corresponding to each interconnection portion between the control and data bus lines. A plurality of capacitor bus lines are formed on the surface of the interlayer insulating substrate for forming an auxiliary capacitor between the pixel electrode and capacitor bus line. The capacitor bus line has an auxiliary capacitor pattern branching from the capacitor bus line and extending along the data bus line. This auxiliary capacitor pattern is constituted of a cutting portion and a remaining main portion. A space between the cutting portion and a corresponding data bus line is broader than that between the main portion and the corresponding data bus line.
