A lubricating oil composition of the invention contains longifolene represented by the following formula (1), that is, (1S,3aR,4S,8aS)-4,8,8-trimethyl-9-methylene-decahydro-1,4-methanoazulene.

A lubricant additive which comprises a succinimide compound or a boronization product thereof is advantageously used for preparation of a lubricant composition which can maintain the property of anti-shudder for a long time without decreasing the transmission torque capacity or the friction coefficient between metals. The succinimide compound is obtained by reacting (a) succinic acid substituted with an alkenyl or alkyl group having 6 to 30 carbon atoms or an anhydride thereof with (b) a polyalkylenepolyamine comprising a polyalkylenepolyamine having a ring structure at an end in an amount of at least 5% by mole of the entire amount of the polyalkylenepolyamine and is represented by following general formula (1): (In the formula, Rrepresents an alkenyl or alkyl group having 6 to 30 carbon atoms, m represents an integer of 2 to 4, n represents an integer of 0 to 3, and A represents the ring structure in the polyalkylenepolyamine having a ring structure at an end or a mixed structure comprising the ring structure and an amino group).

Lubricating oil for non-stage transmission

A lube base oil which comprises at least one hydrocarbon compound having as the basic skeleton a structure represented by any of the general formulae (I) to (VI) and has a viscosity at &#x2212;40&#xb0; C. of 40 Pa&#xb7;s or lower and a viscosity index of 80 or higher, (wherein p is an integer of 1 to 10, provided that in the formulae (I) and (II), p is not 1). It satisfies the coefficient of high-temperature traction, low-temperature flowability, and viscosity index on a high level.

A traction drive fluid composition which comprises component (A) a base oil for traction drives bearing at least one selected from a quaternary carbon atom or an alicyclic structure in the molecule and component (B) at least one polymer having a weight average molecular weight in the range of 8,000 to 40,000 and which is selected from among (a) hydrocarbon polymers each containing as a constituent at least 10 mole % of a monomer bearing a cyclic structure, (b) hydrocarbon polymers each containing at least 25% of quaternary carbon atoms in the backbone chain, and (c) hydrogenated products from the polymers (a) and (b). The traction drive fluid composition is improved in viscosity index without lowering the traction coefficient to a level lower than that of the base oil and is excellent in shear stability.

Traction drive fluid compositions

A fluid for traction drives for automobiles which comprises (A) a hydrocarbon compound having two bridged rings selected from bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane ring, bicyclo[3.2.1]octane ring, bicyclo[3.3.0]octane ring and bicyclo[2.2.2]octane ring and (B) a hydrocarbon compound having at least one structure selected from quaternary carbon atom and ring structures and having a kinematic viscosity at 40&#xb0; C. of 10 mm/s or smaller, and has a viscosity at &#x2212;40&#xb0; C. of 40,000 Pa&#xb7;s or smaller and a flash point of 140&#xb0; C. or higher, is provided. This fluid exhibits a great traction coefficient at high temperatures and very small viscosity at low temperatures. A fluid for traction drives which comprises a specific bicyclo[2,2,1]heptane derivative having 14 to 17 carbon atoms and having a viscosity index of 0 or greater is also provided. This fluid exhibits improved viscosity-temperature characteristics, decreased viscosity and improved fluidity at low temperatures.

Disclosed is a lubricant base oil composition that comprises (a) from 80 to 98% by mass of a naphthenic synthetic lubricant base oil having a flash point of not lower than 140&#xb0; C. and (b) from 2 to 20% by mass of an alcohol/fatty acid ester having a flash point of not lower than 150&#xb0; C. of which the alcohol has a gem-type dimethyl structure, or comprises (a) from 85 to 99% by mass of a naphthenic synthetic lubricant base oil having a flash point of not lower than 140&#xb0; C. and (c) from 1 to 15% by mass of a mineral oil having a kinematic viscosity at 40&#xb0; C. of from 0.9 to 9.6 mm/sec, a boiling point under normal pressure of from 150 to 400&#xb0; C. and a % CA measured through ring analysis (in n-d-M process) of at most 10%. The lubricant base oil composition has a flash point of not lower than 150&#xb0; C. and has a high traction coefficient at high temperatures, and its low-temperature flowability characteristic is good. The oil composition is favorable for traction drive fluid.

1-Methyl-2-phenoxy ethanol of the formula, ##STR1## [wherein R is hydrogen or an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and n is an integer of 0 or 1 to 5] is allowed to react with ammonia in a solvent in the presence of a copper-chromium catalyst and hydrogen, whereby 1-phenoxy-2-aminopropane of the formula ##STR2## [wherein R and n are as defined above] can be obtained at high yields at high selectivity.

The present invention relates to a process for the production of a biguanide derivative useful as an intermediate for triazine-type herbicides, in which the biguanide derivative can be produced at high yields by reacting a phenoxyalkylamine salt with dicyandiamide in a solvent containing a paraffinic hydrocarbon having 8 to 15 carbon atoms, or by reacting a free phenoxylakylamine with a hydrogen halide in a solvent containing a paraffinic hydrocarbon having 8 to 15 carbon atoms and reacting the resultant a phenoxyalkylamine salt with dicyandiamide in the same solvent without isolating the phenoxyalkylamine salt.

A process for producing a triazine derivative of the formula (III), ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, n is an integer of O to 2, R.sup.2 is hydrogen or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl group, and X is a halogen atom, which comprises reacting a biguanide derivative of the formula, ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1 and n are as defined in the formula (III), and X' is a halogen atom, with a halocarboxylic acid ester of the formula, ##STR3## wherein R.sup.2 and X are as defined in the formula (III), and R.sup.3 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, in the presence of a base, wherein a dehydrating agent is present in the reaction system, and processes for producing 2-fluoroisobutyric acid ester as an intermediate compound for the production of the triazine derivative.
