A motorcycle includes a CPU (Central Processing Unit) of an ECU (Electronic Control Unit) that drives a fuel heating device when a fuel heating condition is satisfied and the result of a fuel heating prohibition determination process indicates that heating is permitted. On the other hand, the CPU does not drive the fuel heating device when the fuel heating condition is not satisfied or when the result of the fuel heating prohibition determination process indicates that heating is prohibited. In the fuel heating prohibition determination process, the CPU determines a tilted state of the motorcycle, and prohibits or permits heating of fuel in a fuel pipe by the fuel heating device based on a detection result of the tilted state.

Motorcycle

A variable valve device, which is capable of automatically canceling a deviation in the relationship between the rotation angle of a control shaft and the lift degree generated because of the disassembling and assembling of an engine, includes a target lift degree calculator that calculates a target lift degree, a motor driver that drives a brushless DC motor that rotates the control shaft until the lift degree reaches the target lift degree, and an automatic deviation canceller that automatically cancels the deviation. More specifically, the magnetic pole pulse pattern of the motor before the engine starts is obtained and it is determined whether the pattern match magnetic pole pulse pattern stored before the engine stops. If they do not match, an idle lift degree is set, the idle lift degree is changed so that the engine speed is within the tolerance range of an idle engine speed, the rotation angle for the idle portion is subtracted from the obtained angle of the control shaft and a reference angle is updated by the difference.

Variable valve device for engine

A variable valve device, which is capable of controlling a fuel injection amount or the like if a control shaft sensor has a failure, uses a brushless DC motor to rotate the control shaft, detects the rotation angle of the motor using its magnetic pole sensors, and calculates an estimated rotation angle of the control shaft based on the rotation angle. The variable valve device further determines that the control shaft sensor has a failure if the difference between the actual rotation angle of the control shaft detected by the control shaft sensor and the calculated estimated rotation angle exceeds a prescribed value and controls the fuel injection amount, fuel injection timing and ignition timing of the engine based on the calculated estimated rotation angle.

A motorcycle includes an air inlet pipe, an airflow box, an air cleaner box, and a throttle body as an air passage arranged to allow outside air to be taken into the engine. The air inlet pipe is provided in a front portion of a main frame. The air inlet pipe is provided with an airflow sensor and a throttle valve. An air cleaner element is provided between the airflow sensor and the engine.

Intake system and motorcycle including the same

A cam sensor is provided in a position opposing one surface side of a cam driven sprocket in a valve timing control device. When the valve timing control device is in a high revolution state, a weight is pivoted by centrifugal force caused by the rotation. This allows a projection at the weight to be detected by the cam sensor. In this case, for each rotation of the valve timing control device, the projection of the weight passes the detectable position of the cam sensor and a pulse is generated in a cam signal to be transmitted from the cam sensor to an ECU.

Variable valve system, and engine system and vehicle including the same

A fuel induction system for an internal combustion engine which includes a throttle valve that is positioned substantially open under idle and near idle engine running conditions. The system includes means for disabling one or many of the cylinders in order to maintain a low engine rotational speed at idle and near idle and also means for selectively disabling the cylinders in such a manner as to provide the smoothest running engine possible in those instances where one or many of the engine's cylinders are disabled.

Multiple cylinder engine management system

A fuel induction system for an internal combustion engine which includes a throttle valve that is positioned substantially open under idle and near idle engine running conditions. The system includes means for disabling one or many of the cylinders in order to maintain a low engine rotational speed at idle and near idle and also means for selectively disabling the cylinders in such a manner as to provide the smoothest running engine possible in those instances where one or many of the engine's cylinders are disabled. Smooth transition from one mode to another is achieved by fuel and ignition corrections.

Engine ignition system

A control system for a multiple cylinder, direct fuel injected, spark ignited, internal combustion engine that protects the fuel injectors by precluding the possibility of firing of the spark plugs at a time when a fuel injector is open and if the kill switch has been turned on. The control circuit precludes the disabling of the ignition circuits until all fuel injectors of the engine are in their closed positions.

Engine stop control device

A four cylinder, two cycle crankcase compression, diesel fuel injected engine having an improved injection pump including an integral timer for timing the initiation and duration of fuel injection. A control system and method is disclosed for maintaining uniform running speed during all running conditions while reducing the amount of smoke produced by the engine. The speed uniformity is obtained by selecting a cylinder that deviates from the desired speed and adjusting the fuel injection of the cylinder firing preceding that cylinder on the next cycle. The engine also includes an improved arrangement for determining the timing of an event by measuring the incremental rotational speed of the engine immediately prior to the event to be timed.
