A laptop computer includes a processor that executes an operating system, an embedded controller, in communication with the processor, that controls hardware elements within the laptop computer independently of the processor, and a wireless tag unit, embedded within the laptop computer, that is readable and writable with takeout detection information via wireless communication. The takeout detection information indicates that the laptop computer has been taken out from a use permissible location. The embedded controller is programmed to directly communicate with the wireless tag unit to determine whether the takeout detection information has been written on the wireless tag, and upon determining that the takeout detection information has been written on the wireless tag, assert a signal to the processor to restrict at least some functionalities of the processor.

Information processing apparatus and control method

An apparatus for preventing malfunctions of a touchpad disposed near an antenna is provided. An NFC coil is disposed underneath a touchpad. In NFC, an NFC card approaches the surface of the touchpad. A touch controller sets the detection sensitivity of a finger to a reference value when an NFC module does not emit alternating magnetic fluxes. The touch controller reduces the detection sensitivity at the timing when the NFC coil starts the emission of the alternating magnetic fluxes. The touch controller returns the detection sensitivity to the reference value at the timing when the NFC coil stops the emission of the alternating magnetic fluxes. The NFC module directly transmits a signal with which the touch controller changes the detection sensitivity to the touch controller through a hardware line.

Method and apparatus for preventing malfunctions of a touch panel disposed near an antenna

Disclosed is an NFC antenna that facilitates a touch operation of a portable electronic instrument. An NFC antenna includes insulating substrates and an antenna coil having a front surface pattern and a back surface pattern formed on antenna surfaces that are present on the same planes. The insulating substrates are molded into an L shape together with a magnetic sheet sandwiched therebetween. The antenna coil is also arranged in the L shape in a similar manner. When the NFC antenna is arranged at a corner of a smart phone, a coil opening faces to a position of a touch corner. NFC can be started in a short time by a touch operation using the touch corner.

A method is provided that establishes a communication link of a common wireless communication function between a first electronic equipment and a second electronic equipment, the first electronic equipment having a common wireless communication function to access a near field communication (NFC) tag using the second electronic equipment, the second electronic equipment having the common wireless communication function and an NFC function. The method further includes acquiring, by the second electronic equipment, data stored in the NFC tag through a close approach operation, and transmitting the data from the second electronic equipment to the first electronic equipment by using the common wireless communication function.

A wireless network communication card usable with a host apparatus is disclosed. The wireless network communication card includes an access point detection circuit that detects a wireless access point through a wireless antenna. In a case where it is judged that there is the significant difference, the computer recognizes that the receiving circuit from which a larger RSSI value has been detected is connected to an antenna and the receiving circuit from which a smaller RSSI value has been detected is not connected to the antenna, and the receiving circuit recognized to be unconnected to the antenna is set to operation stop.

A computer and a method for enabling remote communication to a computer operating in a power-saving mode in which one or more one power sources to internal devices are disabled. The computer is equipped with a power management control circuit which is responsive to a first signal indicating that a device used to receive remote communication is to receive power while operating in a power-saving mode. In the event that a remote communications is detected which is targeted for the computer, a second signal is asserted by the remote communications device. The power management control circuit responds by exiting the power-saving mode and restoring power to the disabled power source to enable the computer to process the incoming communication. The remote communication may be through a wireless source such as a radio frequency channel or through a fixed wire such as a telephone network or LAN. Other aspects of the invention enable communication through an option card installed in a option slot or a notebooks docking station such as a radio device, modem, or LAN adapter.

A technique for prohibiting access to a computer having a security function when a security device is illegally removed from the computer. The security device is a hardware component that constitutes a part of a security function for a computer. When the security device is illegally removed from the computer, access to the computer is prohibited. Data indicating that the security device is attached to the computer are stored in a nonvolatile memory. Then, when a specific event, such as a power-ON event, is used as a trigger, the procedure for prohibiting the access to the computer is initiated. Following this, based on the data stored in the memory, it is detected that the security device was once attached to the computer and that it has now been removed. If currently the security device is not attached to the computer, although it was attached before, the access to the computer is prohibited.
