A status data transmission control apparatus and method reduces the buffer size needed for transmission and significantly reduces the communication load by storing the most recent status data (of continuously generated status data) and a history of status data changes in a dedicated buffer. The most recent status data and the history of changes leading up to the most recent status data are sent to the host.

Transmission control device and transmission control method for a terminal apparatus

When a communications terminal has stopped operating because it is off-line, data received from a host is efficiently stored to a receive buffer so that receive buffer full states cannot easily occur. A data interpreter interprets the receive buffer content in the input order. An action buffer stores interpreted commands. A command execution controller executes commands in the action buffer in first-in first-out order. The data interpreter continues interpreting the received data even when operation of the command execution controller is stopped, and kills without storing to the action buffer any real-time commands detected by the data interpreter.

A printing apparatus for storing total operation counters for individual consumable and nonconsumable parts of a printing apparatus. A nonvolatile storage retains stored count information even when power is not supplied to the printing apparatus. An operations counter counts a value indicative of a printing apparatus operation. A counter storage stores a historical counter indicative of the printing apparatus operation history to the nonvolatile storage means based on a value counted by the operations counter, and stores a total printing apparatus operations count to the storage means. Specific printer operations, such as the number of characters printed, distance of recording medium transportation, and the number of times the automatic paper cutter is operated, can thus be individually accumulated, and the historical counts, that is, the cumulative counts since the printer was first used, can be stored to memory.

Printing apparatus and control method therefor

An apparatus and method for cleaning a printing apparatus based on printing apparatus status information that is stored to memory in response to an externally generated reset signal. Based on the stored information, a cleaning process appropriate to the printer status is selected and performed, thereby minimizing ink consumption. In particular, when a CPU of the printing apparatus detects an external reset signal, which is based on the reset signal received from a host computer , the CPU writes the cleaning time, reset time, and other printing apparatus status information to a non-volatile RAM. The CPU is then forcibly reset by an internal reset signal. After being reset, the CPU reads the status information from the non-volatile RAM, and selects and implements a cleaning process appropriate to the stored status information. Ink consumption by the printing apparatus can thus be minimized, and reliable cleaning and printing can be maintained.

Printing apparatus, and a control method for resetting the printing apparatus

In a printer,, if a reset signal Vrst is supplied, an external reset signal V,that can be recognized by software is supplied to a CPU,. The CPU,stores the time when the signal V,is recognized as a pause time into a nonvolatile RAM,. Then, determination of whether or not the reset is intentional is performed based on a reset time interval which is sought from a plurality of the past reset times. If the reset is not intentional, an appropriate level of cleaning is instructed to an ink system,; and if the reset is intentional, an initialization level of cleaning is instructed to the ink system

Printer and its control method

According to the present invention, a printer apparatus connected to a host computer, in such a manner that permits bidirectional communication, has a nonvolatile memory that allows its contents to be rewritten and read from the host computer. Allocated to the nonvolatile memory is an area for retaining a plurality of types of information for identifying the printer apparatus. Each piece of information comprises a key for identifying the type of information and a terminator indicating the end of the information. Thus, efficiently storing a plurality of pieces of information regarding the printer apparatus in the nonvolatile memory permits flexible change or addition of information.

Printing apparatus, method of controlling it and storage medium

A printer includes platen opening/closing means for increasing a gap between a platen and a print head when a printing medium is set to the printer, and cleaning means for cleaning a photo sensor device. The cleaning means removes paper dust, for example, accumulated to such an extent as to interrupt the optical path between the light emitting and receiving elements of the photo sensor device. The cleaning means is controlled by a control means contained in the printer. The control means drives the cleaning means when an output signal level of the photo sensor device is below a predetermined signal level after the printing medium is discharged out of the printer.
