A computer reads a voice speech recognition program from a first recording medium, and reads voice data from a second recording medium, and causes a CPU in the computer to recognize speech represented by the read voice data according to the speech recognition program, convert the result of speech recognition into text data, and display the converted text data on a display unit. A check mark button used by a speaker designates a portion of voice data, which is input through a microphone, corresponding to an unnecessary word or the like. The portion of the voice data in which a check mark is inscribed is not regarded as an object of speech recognition. Only the other portion of voice data in which the check mark is not inscribed is regarded as an object of speech recognition, and speech recognition is thus carried out. Furthermore, the sound level of a voice portion of voice data is rated. The gain of the voice data is adjusted according to the rated level. On the basis of the voice data whose sound level has been adjusted, speech recognition is carried out.

A voice signal coding apparatus includes: a voice status detector detecting whether an input signal divided at predetermined frame intervals is a voice or a non-voice signal; a linear predictive analyzer outputting a linear predictive parameter associated with the input signal; a voice sound source predicting circuit; a non-voice sound source predicting circuit including a random signal generator; and a switch controller selecting either the voice or non-voice sound source predicting circuit from the detection result of the voice status detector, wherein the random signal gain is set in accordance with a value obtained by suppressing by a predetermined factor the gain obtained when a non-voice input signal is coded by the voice sound predicting circuit. When the input signal is a non-voice signal over a number of successive frames, a switch controller continuously outputs a linear predictive parameter for a previous frame; when a predetermined number of successive non-voice signal frames occurs, the parameter smoothing circuit calculates the weighted sum of the linear predictive parameter of the current frame and a linear predictive parameter used in non-voice frames and outputs a smoothed parameter; and a parameter memory stores the smoothed parameter. The voice status detector includes a threshold value adapting circuit increasing threshold value when the input signal level is greater than the current threshold value and decreasing it when the input signal level is smaller than the current threshold value, wherein the threshold value increasing factor is set to a value greater than a factor by which the threshold value is increased in a normal state.

Voice signal coding apparatus

A voice recording and/or reproducing device includes a plurality of coders having different bit rates for coding voice to provide coded voice data, a voice recording mode change over switch for selecting one of the plurality of coders, and a system controller. The system controller stores coding selection data obtained by the change over of the voice recording mode and coded voice data obtained from the selected coder, to a storing medium, and reduces a deterioration of the voice due to the change over. The voice recording and/or reproducing device also includes a detector for detecting the coding selection data, and a plurality of decoders for decoding the coded voice data at the bit rate corresponding to the detected coding selection data.

The noise suppression apparatus further includes a negative amplitude value counter for counting the number of frequency components in an output of the subtractor whose amplitude values are negative; a subtraction coefficient setting unit for gradually decreasing a subtraction coefficient unit the counted value becomes not more than a predetermined value; an inverse Fourier transform unit for performing inverse Fourier transform to an output of the counter; and a noise spectrum estimation unit for calculating spectrum information of noise in the frame signal using different spectrum information according to the current type of frame signal.

A speech information recording/reproduction apparatus includes a CPU for recording digital speech data, into which a speech signal is converted, in a rewritable solid memory, a partial erasing switch for erasing the speech data recorded in the solid memory, and a reproduction switch for setting an erasing range of the speech data from the solid memory. The CPU delays execution of erasure for several seconds after the erasing range is set, and predetermined information about the execution of erasure is displayed by an LCD and an LED for these several seconds. The CPU does not erase the speech data from the solid memory when a reset switch is operated to cancel the execution of erasure during the display of the information, but erases it after the information is displayed when the reset switch is not operated during the display.
