An olefin wax (A) is (i) a copolymer (A1) obtained by copolymerizing ethylene and at least one diene or a copolymer (A2) obtained by copolymerizing ethylene, at least one olefin selected from &#x3b1;-olefins of 3 to 12 carbon atoms and at least one diene; wherein (ii) the content of unsaturated groups per one molecule is in the range of 0.5 to 3.0 groups; (iii) the density is in the range of 870 to 980 kg/m; (iv) the melting point is in the range of 70 to 130&#xb0; C.; (v) the number-average molecular weight is in the range of 400 to 5,000; and (vi) the ratio (Mw/Mn) of the weight-average molecular weight to the number-average molecular weight is not more than 4.0. A silicone-modified olefin wax can be obtained by reacting hydrogen silicone with the olefin wax (A). Cosmetics contain the silicone-modified olefin wax.

An additive for a printing ink comprising a wax of either an ethylene homopolymer or ethylene.C&#x3b1;-olefin copolymer each has an intrinsic viscosity, weight-average molecular weight/number-average molecular weight ratio, z-average molecular weight/weight-average molecular weight ratio, density, penetration hardness, and acid value in specific ranges; a solvent dispersion obtained by dispersing the wax; and a printing ink containing the wax.

A polyolefin wax for a coating material which includes an ethylene (co)polymer having a number-average molecular weight within the range of from 400 to 5000 as measured by gel permeation chromatography. The polyolefin wax has a volume average particle diameter in the range of from 0.3 &#x3bc;m to 20 &#x3bc;m wherein the relation between a particle diameter a (&#x3bc;m), in which the weight ratio of the large particle diameter side in weight particle-size distribution is 10%, and a particle diameter b (&#x3bc;m), in which the weight ratio of the small particle diameter side in weight particle size distribution is 10%, satisfies the a/b&#x2266;4 and the relation between the crystallization temperature Tc (&#xb0; C.), measured at a cooling rate of 2&#xb0; C./min) as measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and the density D (kg/m) as measured by the density gradient tube method satisfies the equation 0.501&#xd7;D&#x2212;366&#x2267;Tc. The additive (b) for a communication cable filler according to the present invention contains as a main component an ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin copolymer (a) having a number-average molecular weight (Mn), measured by GPC, of 500 to 5,000 and having a crystallizing temperature (Tc (&#xb0; C.), rate of temperature decrease: 2&#xb0; C./min) measured by DSC and a density (D (kg/m)) measured by a density gradient tube method, said Tc and D satisfy the following formula (1):0.501&#xd7;(kg/m)&#x2212;366&#x2267;(&#xb0; C.)&#x2003;&#x2003;(1).
