The present invention provides resin materials for producing molded products endowed with excellent heat resistance, solvent resistance, toughness, tensile elongation, and transparency. Specifically, there are provided aromatic vinyl resin materials which have the following properties: Storage elasticity values G&prime;(1.0) and G&prime;(0.1) as measured at 300&deg; C., a strain &ggr; of 20%, and a frequency of 1.0 Hz or 0.1 Hz satisfy the expression, log&lsqb;G&prime;(1.0)/G&prime;(0.1)&rsqb;&lE;0.6, the heat of fusion &Dgr;H as measured over the range 200-295&deg; C. is 8 to 50 (J/g), and the H-NMR peak integrated values for the fraction corresponding to the temperature range of not lower than 50&deg; C., as collected from temperature rising election fraction on the Soxhlet extraction residue by use of cyclohexane or o-dichlorobenzene, satisfy the relation &lsqb;1.8-2.1 (ppm)&rsqb;/&lsqb;1.0-1.7(ppm))<0.49.

The present invention provides resin materials endowed with excellent heat resistance, solvent resistance, tensile elongation, toughness, and transparency. Specifically, there are provided an ethylene copolymer having a vinyl group attributed to a diene monomer in the molecular chain and comprising an aromatic vinyl monomer (A), ethylene (B) and a diene monomer (C), and an aromatic vinyl graft copolymer which is a graft copolymerization product of an aromatic vinyl monomer (H) and an ethylene copolymer macromer (I).

Disclosed is a graft copolymer (A+B) of a styrene-based monomer (A) and a terminal styrene derivative-modified olefin-based macromer (B) of formula (1), having a high degree of syndiotacticity for the stereospecificity of the chains derived from the styrene-based monomer: ##STR1## R is H or alkyl; X is H, halogen, or a substituent having one or more of C, Sn and Si; n is 1 to 4; m is 0 or a natural number; Z is a chain moiety derived from an olefin-based monomer. The graft copolymer (A+B) and a styrene-based resin composition comprising the graft copolymer (A+B) or comprising the macromer (B) have good heat resistance, good chemical resistance, high stiffness and good miscibility with various resins, and are useful as component parts for composite materials and also as heat-resistant elastomers.

Process for controlling molecular weight of a styrenic polymer

The present invention relates to a process for efficiently purifying a styrenic polymer which comprises adding a poor solvent alone or in combination with a swelling agent to a syndiotactic polystyrene produced by the use of a catalyst comprising (A) an aluminoxane or a coordination complex compound comprising a cation and an anion in which a plurality of radicals are bonded to a metal and (B) a transition metal compound, and treating the polystyrene under a controlled water content of 15 to 10,000 ppm to simultaneously carry out deactivation and deashing. The above process can efficiently remove residual metals without using a deashing agent and afford a highly pure high-grade crystalline styrenic polymer excellent in color tone.

Process for purification of styrenic polymer

There is disclosed a process for purifying a styrene polymer which comprises treating a highly syntiotactic styrene polymer which is produced by using a catalyst composition of (A) an aluminoxane or a specific coordination complex compound and (B) a transition metal compound with a swelling agent (e.g. ethylbenzene) and a deactivating agent (e.g. methanol, ethanol). The process is capable of efficiently purifying the styrene polymer produced by polymerizing a styrene monomer at a high concentration with a high conversion efficiency. Accordingly, the process greatly improves the industrial productivity of highly pure styrene polymer.

There is disclosed a process for purifying a styrene polymer which comprises subjecting a highly syntiotactic styrene polymer which is produced by the use of a catalyst composition of (A) an aluminoxane or a specific coordination complex compound and (B) a transition metal compound to deashing treatment at the glass transition temperature of the styrene polymer or higher. The process is capable of efficiently deashing the styrene polymer produced by polymerizing a styrene monomer at a high concentration with a high conversion efficiency. Accordingly, the process greatly improves the productivity of highly pure styrene polymer.

A process for the purification of a styrene polymer having a high degree of syndiotactivity. The styrene polymer is obtained by carrying out polymerization with a catalyst comprising (A) an aluminoxane and (B) a transition metal compound, which does not contain halogen. The styrene polymer is deashed with an alcoholic alkaline solution and then washed with an alcohol.

Process for purification of syndiotactic styrene polymer

There is disclosed a process for purification of a styrene polymer, for purifying a styrene polymer having a high degree of syndiotacticity obtained by using a catalyst comprising (A) aluminoxane and (B) a transition metal compound containing no halogen, deashing the above styrene polymer with an alcoholic alkaline solution and then washing with an alcohol. Also disclosed is a process for purification of a styrene polymer which comprises deashing the above styrene polymer having been produced with a conversion rate of 60% or more after swelling it by adding an aromatic solvent and/or a styrene monomer. According to the process of the present invention, a high purity styrene polymer can be obtained with good efficiency.

Disclosed is a process for producing a styrene polymer composition, which comprises polymerizing styrene monomer using a catalyst comprising (A) aluminoxane and (B) a compound of the group IV B transition metal in the periodic table, in the presence of rubber-like elastomer. The resin composition obtained thereby is superior in heat resistance, and impact strength, and utilized as the starting material for various moldings.

Process for producing a styrene polymer composition

A process for producing a styrene-based polymer having a high syndiotactic configuration, which comprises polymerizing a styrene-based monomer with addition of catalyst in such amounts that the conversion at 30 minutes after the polymerization starts becomes 2 to 50%, and then continuing the polymerization with additions of the catalyst when the conversion exceeds 10%. According to the process, the productivity can be improved while easily attaining safe running of the reactor and successful controlling of reaction heat.

Process for producing a highly syndiotactic styrene-based polymer

Novel styrene-based polymers and a process for efficient production thereof are disclosed. The styrene-based polymers have a branching nucleus represented by the general formula: R(S).sub.k or R(A-S).sub.k (wherein all the symbols are as defined in the appended claims), and have a sulfur content of 6 to 550 ppm, a weight average molecular weight of 450,000 to 1,300,000, and a weight average molecular weight/number average molecular weight (Mw/Mn) ratio of 2:1 to 15:1. The styrene-based polymers are greatly improved in impact resistance while maintaining sufficiently high fluidity and moldability and thus when injection or extrusion molded, can provide moldings having an excellent mechanical strength.
