An image forming system includes an image forming apparatus and an insertion device. The image forming apparatus includes an image forming device, a transport device, and a control device. The control device acts as a controller and an executer. The controller causes the image forming device to execute a printing job, and causes the insertion device to insert the interleaving paper in a printed material at an insertion start timing designated by the printing job. The executer executes calibration at an execution start timing set in advance, and sets a time point that a predetermined time has elapsed after a previous calibration to the execution start timing in advance. The executer starts to execute the calibration at the insertion start timing, when a predetermined condition is satisfied.

The control device functions as a controller and an executor. The controller allows the inserter to insert an interleaving paper between sheets of printed material at an insertion start timing specified by a print job. When the plurality of calibrations include a second calibration capable of being completed within an interleaving paper insertion time required to insert the interleaving paper or a third calibration capable of being completed within a total time of the interleaving paper insertion time and a predetermined additional time, the executor executes the second calibration or the third calibration in time with the insertion start timing.

An image forming apparatus includes a first processor, a second processor, a data transfer portion, a consistency determination portion, an abnormality determination portion, a re-transfer control portion, and an abnormality processing portion. The data transfer portion transfers data via a bus between a storage medium and the second processor. The consistency determination portion determines whether or not there is consistency between data before and after a transfer by the data transfer portion. The abnormality determination portion, upon determination that there is consistency, determines whether or not there is abnormality in the data transfer process. The re-transfer control portion, upon determination that there is no consistency, causes the data transfer portion to re-transfer the data. The abnormality processing portion, upon determination that there is abnormality in the data transfer process, prohibits the re-transfer control portion from re-transferring the data, and executes an abnormality process to handle the abnormality.

A finisher includes an ejection port, a stacking tray, a light-emitting element, a light-receiving element, a communication section that performs data communication with an image forming apparatus and acquires a coverage rate of paper stacked on the stacking tray, and a paper-amount determination section that determines whether the amount of paper on the stacking tray exceeds a predetermined stack capacity of the stacking tray by comparing a predetermined threshold value with the amount of light received by the light-receiving element. The paper-amount determination section corrects the threshold value by using the coverage rate acquired by the communication section, compares the corrected threshold value with the amount of the light received by the light-receiving element, and determines that the amount of the paper stacked on the stacking tray exceeds the stack capacity of the stacking tray if the light amount is equal to or greater than the corrected threshold value.

A sheet interval detection section detects a sheet interval between consecutive sheets being conveyed in the post-printing processing section. A cumulative time measuring section measures a cumulative total time of an image formation operation. A time determination section determines whether or not the cumulative total time exceeds a predetermined period of time. A post-processing device includes: a tray; a sheet output section; a stapler provided movably in a direction perpendicular to a direction of discharge of a stack of paper sheets and configured to apply staples to a plurality of locations on the stack of paper sheets loaded on the tray; a sheet stack shifting section configured to shift the stack of paper sheets loaded on the tray in the direction perpendicular to the direction of discharge of the stack; and an operation control section configured to allow the stapler to apply a staple to a first location on the stack of paper sheets and then allow the stapler to move to a position corresponding to a location to be stapled next while allowing the sheet stack shifting section to shift the stack in a direction opposite to a direction of the movement of the stapler.
