A drive-wheel axle unit which prevents the mutual contact portion between a caulk portion () of a hub () and an outer-end face () of a housing portion () of a drive shaft member () from being exhausted, thereby preventing the occurrence of shaky motion, strange sounds and vibrations for a long period of time. A flat surface () is formed in the end face of the caulk portion (), and is contacted over a large area with the outer end face (), which makes it possible to reduce the contact surface pressure in the mutual contact portion between the flat surface () and outer end face ().

Axle unit for driving wheel

A wheel-driving unit and a method for manufacturing the same. The circumferential-direction widths of teeth respectively constituting a male spline portion () and a female spline portion () are varied gradually in the respective axial directions of the male and female spline portions (), (). The directions where the widths of the teeth respectively constituting the male and female spline portions (), () increase in the axial direction are set so as to differ from each other, whereby the spline teeth are engaged with each other in a wedge-like manner. A retaining ring () is bridgingly interposed between the outer peripheral surface of the outer end portion of the spline shaft () and the inner peripheral surface of the near-to-outer-end portion of the spline hole () to thereby prevent the spline shaft () from slipping out of the spline hole ().

Wheel drive unit

By regulating the tightening force of the nut, at the area of contact between the inside end of the crimped portionand the outside end of the outer ring of the constant velocity joint, the load per unit length is controlled up to 125 N/mm, or the surface pressure is controlled up to 1.5&#xd7;10Pa. Consequently, a bearing unit for wheel support is realized at a low cost with the pre-load securely applied, preventing unpleasant noise from occurring during operation, and preventing play due to plastic deformation.

A combination of a constant-velocity joint and an axle unit for wheel-drive which comprises an outer race having an outer-ring raceway and being not rotatable even during use, a hub having an installation flange for supporting the wheel near the outside end, a first spline section and an inner-ring raceway near the inside end facing the outer-ring raceway, a drive member having a second spline section facing the first spline section, and a housing section forming an outer ring of the constant velocity joint, a plurality of rolling bodies between the outer-ring raceway and inner-ring raceway, the hub being engaged with the drive member by way of a spline connection with a pitch circle, and a coupling member adapted to freely deform elastically in the radial direction and located between and engaged with the first engagement section and the second engagement section so as to position the hub and drive member in the axial direction, wherein the clearance width in the circumferential direction on the pitch circle is controlled within the range of 0.001 mm to 0.10 mm.

Drive unit for wheel and assembly method for the same

A radial ball bearing of the three point contact type or four point contact type is used for the rolling bearing for a compressor pulley. The offset amount &dgr;, that is the axial distance between the center &agr; of the radial load applied to the follower pulley from the endless belt , and the center &bgr; of the radial ball bearing is 40% or less of the diameter of the pitch circle. In addition, the radial clearance of the radial ball bearing is 0.2% or less of the diameter of the pitch circle. With this construction, the durability of the rolling bearing to support the follower pulley is secured while made compact.

Rotation support apparatus for compressor pulley

A bearing unit for vehicle wheel support comprising a shaft having a mounting flange for vehicle wheel or suspension apparatus, a step portion formed on one end portion thereof, a first inner ring raceway directly formed thereon, and a crimped portion formed on the end side of the step portion, and an inner ring fitted onto the step portion and having a second inner ring raceway thereon, the shaft being quench hardened at least at the first inner ring raceway with the crimped portion kept as formed and without quench hardened, and the inner ring being fixed to the shaft by the crimped portion of the shaft.

A pair of collar sections are formed on both ends in the axial direction of the outer ring for the one-way clutch to protrude radially inwards. The inner diameter D of the collar sections is greater than the outer diameter D of the axially oppoite ends of the clutch retainer of the one way clutch . One-way clutch built-in type pulley device

A wheel drive unit comprises a bearing unit for wheel drive which is light in weight and low in cost. The components constituting the bearing unit for wheel drive have optimum properties to secure the durability thereof. Of the components constituting the bearing unit for wheel drive, the portions indicated by a diagonal grid hatching are quench-hardened with the other portions being not quench-hardened and left as they are, whereby the rolling fatigue life and wear-resistance of the components are improved and cracking is prevented.

A bearing device comprising a shaft, a housing, a double row of bearings provided between the shaft and the housing and preloaded by a fixed-position preloading method, the double row of bearings having a pair of races with a gap therebetween for preload adjustment, and the bearing device further having a support member for supporting one side of the races in the pre-loading direction, and the support member provided on the side of one of the shaft and the housing.

Double row bearing device

A radial ball bearing of the three point contact type or four point contact type is used for the rolling bearing for a compressor pulley. A wheel-drive apparatus for an automobile is provided to have an outer race fixedly connected to a suspension, a wheel-support hub having a first spline hole, an inner race fixedly fitted onto the hub, rolling members rotatable between the outer ring raceways of the outer race and the inner ring raceways of the hub and inner race, a drive shaft member having an outside end to be a spline shaft for engagement with the first spline hole and an inside end formed to be an outer ring for a constant velocity joint. A stop ring is engaged with the spline shaft and the hub to prevent the spline shaft from coming away from the spline hole. An inner ring for the constant velocity joint has a second spline hole, and balls are provided between the outside engaging groove of the outer ring and the inside engaging groove of the inner ring. A drive shaft has a male spline portion with a groove bottom in spline-engagement with the second spline hole, while the spline shaft has a base end the minimum outer diameter D of which is larger than the diameter D of the groove bottom of the male spline portion.
