A spool valve for changing transmission ratio for a toroidal type infinitely variable transmission is composed of, a valve housing tightly attached to a fixed member and leaving internal fluid passages, a spool is disposed in the housing and is slidable in an axial direction so as to confront with the various fluid passages to control the supply of pressurized fluid, and a cam follower made as a discrete member from the spool is disposed between the spool and a cam face to reduce the amount of displacement of the spool. The relative position of the spool with respect to the fluid passages is changed by a transmission ratio setting means to prevent the valve housing itself from displacing during the transmission ratio controlling operation.

Ratio control spool valve for a toroidal type infinitely variable

An infinitely variable traction roller transmission having a housing, an input shaft and an output shaft rotatably and coaxially supported on the housing, an input toric disc and an output toric disc fitted on the input and output shafts, respectively, and engaged with the shafts for rotation therewith, the opposed surfaces of the toric discs cooperating with each other to form a toroidal cavity, a plurality of traction rollers disposed in the toroidal cavity symmetrically with the axes of the input and output shafts, trunnion devices rotatably supporting the traction rollers and supported by the housing for pivotal movement about a pivot axis perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the traction rollers, and pressing means for urging the input and output toric discs and the traction rollers against each other to bring them into engagement with each other and cause a traction force to be produced, is provided with a supporting device for mounting the trunnion devices on the housing for slight movement in the direction of the pivot axis, a screw device provided at the end of the pivot axis of the trunnion devices, and a speed change link mechanism provided on the screw device to rectilinearly move the trunnion devices in the direction of the pivot axis through the screw device.

Infinitely variable traction roller transmission

A constant velocity universal joint comprises an outer member having an inner partial concave spherical surface with a plurality of lengthwise grooves therein, an inner member inserted in the outer member and having an outer partial convex spherical surface with a plurality of lengthwise grooves therein, a plurality of balls retained in corresponding opposed pairs of the grooves of the two members and serving to transmit a torque between the two members, and a cage disposed between the two members for receiving the balls. The bottoms of the grooves of the two members are arcuate, the grooves of each member having a respective arc center. The arc centers are offset by substantially equal amounts to opposite sides of the central plane of the joint, and the spherical centers of the inner and outer spherical surfaces are also offset by substantially equal amounts to opposite sides of the central plane. The amount of offset of the spherical centers is smaller than that of the arc centers, with both offsets being smaller than the distance between the central plane of the joint and the end face of the outer member.

Constant velocity universal joint

An infinitely variable traction roller transmission having a housing, input and output shafts rotatably and coaxially journaled to the housing, input and output toric discs mounted on the input and output shafts and rotatable together while being firmly engaged with the shafts, the opposed surfaces of the toric discs cooperating with each other to form a toroidal cavity, a plurality of traction rollers disposed in the toroidal cavity symmetrically with the axis of the input and output shafts, a trunnion device rotatably supporting the traction rollers and pivotably supporting the vicinity of a pivot axis perpendicular to the rotational axis thereof, and forcing means for firmer engaging the input and output toric discs with the traction rollers and generating a traction force, is provided with a support device for mounting the trunnion device on the housing for slight movement in the direction of the pivot axis, a displacing device provided at the end of the pivot axis of the trunnion device to displace the trunnion device in the axial direction, and a spring device cooperating with the displacing device in accordance with the amount of displacement of the displacing device resulting from said rotational movement.

A speed control device of a toric type infinitely variable transmission having a housing, an input and an output shaft rotatably and coaxially supported by the housing, an input and an output disc fitted on the input and output shafts, respectively, and engaged with the shafts for rotation therewith, the opposed surfaces of the discs cooperating with each other to form a toroidal cavity, left and right traction rollers disposed in the toroidal cavity symmetrically with respect to the axis of the input and output shafts, trunnion devices rotatably supporting the traction rollers and supported by the housing for rotation about pivot axes perpendicular to the axes of rotation of the traction rollers, and pressing means for urging the input and output discs on the traction rollers into engagement with each other and causing a traction force is characterized by a support device for supporting respectively pivot shaft ends so that the pivot shafts of the left and right trunnion devices are slightly tiltable, and a tilting device for slightly moving the support device to left and right and tilting the trunnion devices by a predetermined amount. The support devices include a support link member for connecting the upper and lower pivot shaft ends of each of the left and right trunnion devices using bearing means. The support link members are supported in the housing for slight leftward and rightward movement.

Speed control device of a toric type infinitely variable transmission

An infinitely variable toric transmission has a housing, input and output shafts rotatably and coaxially supported in the housing, toric input and output disks fitted on and engaged with the input and output shafts, respectively, for rotation together, the opposed surfaces of the disks cooperating with each other to form a toric cavity, two right and left traction rollers disposed in the toric cavity symmetrically with respect to the axis of the input and output shafts, trunnion devices rotatably supporting the traction rollers and supported in the housing through upper and lower support link members for rightward and leftward pivotal movement about a pivot axis perpendicular to the rotational axes of the traction rollers, and pressing means for abutting the input and output disks and the traction rollers into engagement with each other and generating a traction force. One of the upper and lower support link members is supported in the housing by a sliding post for slight rightward and leftward movement and the other of the upper and lower support link members has its central portion tiltably supported in the housing by a spherical post. The transmission is characterized in that hydraulic cylinder devices are provided which extend on the upper and lower pivot shaft ends, respectively, of the right and left trunnion devices, the right and left cylinder diameter of the cylinder devices which is adjacent to the spherical post is larger than the right and left cylinder diameter of the cylinder devices which is adjacent to the sliding post, and the cylinder devices on each diagonal are conjunctioned with each other by pipings.

Infinitely variable toric transmission

A thrust ball bearing using balls as the rolling members of the bearing comprises first and second races having track grooves having a cross-sectional radius slightly greater than the radius of the balls, a retainer for retaining the balls interposed between the first and second races, and a third race circumscribing the balls and positioning the balls slightly inwardly of the track diameter of the bearing.
