An optical device includes: a first optical member having a light-exit end at which light exits the first optical member; a second optical member having a light-entrance end which abuts the light-exit end through a protective medium and from which the light enters the second optical member; and the protective medium which is arranged between the light-exit end and the light-entrance end, and suppresses fixing together of the light-exit end and the light-entrance end. Specifically, the protective medium is transparent and arranged between the light-exit end and the light-entrance end, and is reusable even after the light-exit end and the light-entrance end are pressed together with a pressure of approximately 0.5 or 1 kgf and are then separated from each other.

A laser module includes: a chassis having a light-output window from which one or more laser beams are outputted; a hermetically sealed package which is fixed to the chassis; one or more semiconductor laser elements which are arranged in the hermetically sealed package, and emit the one or more laser beams; a transparent member which is arranged to cover the light-output window; an optical fiber which has a light-entrance end face, and is arranged outside the chassis so that the light-entrance end face is in contact with the transparent member; and an optical condensing system which is arranged inside the chassis, and makes the one or more laser beams pass through the transparent member and be condensed on the light-entrance end face. The transparent member and the optical fiber are detachably attached to the chassis.

Light that is incident through a pair of object lenses of digital binocular glasses is photographed by a pair of image pickup devices to obtain a pair of images (stereoscopic image) generating a difference corresponding to a parallax of both eyes. A geometric difference between image structures corresponding to a parallax of both eyes is recognized in the pair of images subjected to various corrections and stored in memories. Thereafter, a noise reduction process is performed, which reduces a difference (for example, a difference between random noises superposed on the pair of images by the image pickup devices) other than the recognized geometric difference between the image structures. The images subjected to the noise reduction process are displayed on a pair of display devices, and are visually recognized (stereoscopically viewed) by the user through eyepiece lenses.

A laser module includes: one or more semiconductor laser elements which emit one or more laser beams; an optical fiber which has a light-entrance end face; and an optical condensing system which is constituted by one or more optical components and makes the one or more laser beams converge at the light-entrance end face of the optical fiber. A laser module includes: one or more semiconductor laser elements which emit one or more divergent laser beams; one or more collimator lenses which collimate the one or more divergent laser beams; a condensing lens which condenses the one or more collimated laser beams, and make the one or more collimated laser beams converge at a convergence position; an optical fiber which is arranged in such a manner that the convergence position is located on the light-entrance end face; and a package which contains the one or more semiconductor laser elements and the one or more collimator lenses, does not contain the condensing lens and the light-entrance end face, and is hermetically sealed.

In a laser module in which laser beams emitted from semiconductor laser elements are collimated by collimator lenses, and condensed by an optical condensing system so that the laser beams converge at a light-entrance end face of an optical fiber. The semiconductor laser elements and the collimator lenses are contained in a hermetically sealed, first package which includes a front wall having a window arranged for passage of the laser beams, and a portion of the optical condensing system and the light-entrance end face are contained in a hermetically sealed, second package which is fixed to the front wall. The cross section of the second package perpendicular to the optical axis of the optical fiber at the light-entrance end face is smaller than the cross section of the first package parallel to the cross section of the second package.

A method of fixing an optical component includes the steps of scoring a surface of a support, bringing an optical component into close contact with the scored surface of the support, and flowing a fluid adhesive along kerfs produced by the scoring. An optical component support has a surface provided with scoring kerts for fixing the optical component. The method and support enable fixing of an optical component by a thin, uniform adhesive layer, without fine polishing of the optical component and the surface of the support.

A light wavelength converting module is provided in which generation of noise due to return light is prevented and a wave whose wavelength is converted can be obtained stably. The light wavelength converting module is formed by a semiconductor laser from which a fundamental wave exits, and a light wavelength converting element which is optically coupled to the semiconductor laser and which converts a wavelength of the fundamental wave which enters from the semiconductor laser. A wavelength plate is disposed at a light exiting side of the light wavelength converting element. An IR cutting filter, which serves as a removing means for removing the fundamental wave from a second harmonic, is disposed between the wavelength plate and the light wavelength converting element.

Light wavelength converting module

A light wavelength converting element which can reduce an amount of light fed-back to a semiconductor laser. The light wavelength converting element converts a wavelength of a fundamental wave which enters from a first end surface side of an optical waveguide to thereby emit a converted wavelength wave from a second end surface side thereof. The second end surface is inclined with respect to the side surface of the optical waveguide. Also provided is a wavelength stabilized laser having a semiconductor laser, a device which feeds a laser beam emitted from the semiconductor laser back to the semiconductor laser, and a band-pass filter. An optical length between the semiconductor laser and the device is made to be longer than a coherent length of the semiconductor laser, thus improving linearity of a current vs. light output characteristic. Further, a light wavelength converting unit and a light wavelength converting module are provided in which, since an LD-SHG unit formed by a semiconductor laser and a light wavelength converting element is hermetically sealed in a package, the LD-SHG unit can be manufactured easily and has excellent stability over time.

A solid state laser includes a solid state laser crystal, a pumping source for pumping the laser crystal, a resonator, an enclosed casing which is filled with gas and in which the resonator is contained, and a temperature controller which keeps the resonator at a predetermined temperature. The ratio of the optical length of the gas layer in the resonator to the oscillation wavelength of the solid state laser is set to be not larger than 13600.

An optical waveguide device for coupling an external wave with a guided wave by means of a grating coupler formed on an optical waveguide device which lies on a substrate. The grating coupler is further coated with a cladding layer. An external wave is transformed into a guided wave after being diffracted by a first grating coupler, and travels along the waveguide to a second grating coupler. The guided wave is then subjected to diffraction by means of the second grating coupler, whereupon a minus first-order wave is diffracted only toward the substrate, whilst other waves of higher order are respectively diffracted toward the cladding layer and the substrate. The wave diffracted toward the cladding layer is totally reflected from a cladding layer boundary furtherst from the substrate, thereby passing through the substrate. The diffracted wave thus reflected interferes with the other wave of the same order diffracted to the substrate, thereby weakening each other.

A portable video camera of the type having a taking lens and an electronic video imaging device comprises a camera body incorporating the electronic video imaging device therein, a handgrip turnably mounted on one side wall of the camera body, and a view finder, electronic or optical, structurally integral with the handgrip for viewing an image of a subject therethrough. Being changeable in position according to camera angles, the action finder can be brought into alignment with an eye of the operator in any shooting angle.
