A remote controller for setting timer programming items wherein a display section is constructed in such manner that display items are provided in parallel with mechanical rotary switches, the distance between the rotary switches and their displays is adjacent and the relation between them becomes one to one correspondence, whereby an operator manipulates operational switches without making mistakes while looking at display items corresponding to the operational switches.

A magnetic recorder and/or a regenerator which deletes a troublesome key operation at the time of regeneration and improve operability is provided. A play key operation detecting means which detects that the play key is on in a power-off state and outputs a detecting signal and a play operation practical means which practices the play operation together with supplying the power to the indicator portion, tape deck, servo circuit and the video-audio circuit based upon the detecting signal outputted from the play key detecting means.

A tape end detecting device for detecting the end of the tape enclosed within a cassette includes a light emitting element for generating a light pulse signal, a pair of light receiving element, a light guide means comprising a central prism and a pair of side prisms disposed at both sides of said cassette loaded in position, and a tape end signal generating circuit adopted for generating a tape end detecting signal only when it receives the light pulse signal. Therefore, the tape end detecting device operates to generate an output upon receipt of the light signal, but does not generate when the light coming from outside is received.
