A print element substrate comprises print elements generating thermal energy for ejecting liquid; and a temperature detection element circuit including temperature detection elements provided corresponding to each of the print elements, and reading temperature information by selectively energizing one of the temperature detection elements, wherein the temperature detection element circuit includes: a signal processing portion outputting a selection signal having a second voltage amplitude larger than a first voltage amplitude, based on an input signal having the first voltage amplitude; a selection switch provided for each of the plurality of temperature detection elements, selecting the temperature detection element; and a first read switch provided for each of the plurality of temperature detection elements, reading a voltage of a terminal of one of the temperature detection element selected by the selection switch, and wherein the selection switch and the first read switch are driven by using the selection signal.

Print element substrate and temperature detection apparatus

A printing apparatus comprising a printing element substrate, including a substrate including a heating element for heating and discharging liquid and a temperature detecting element for detecting a temperature of the substrate, wherein a detection period, during which a detecting result is obtainable, extends across a plurality of cycles of a latch signal, and a heating enabling signal for discharging the liquid and the latch signal are output such that, in the detection period, an output value of a temperature waveform does not exceed a preset threshold value, the temperature waveform being a temperature waveform of the substrate detected by the temperature detecting element.

On an element substrate having a multilayered structure in which a temperature detection element is provided in an intermediate layer of a wiring layer and a print element layer, a wiring layer and a temperature detection element formed on the first interlayer insulation film are connected by a first conductive plug which penetrates through the first interlayer insulation film. In addition, a wiring layer and a print element which are formed on the second interlayer insulation film formed on the first interlayer insulation film are connected by a second conductive plug which penetrates through the first and second interlayer insulation films. A printhead comprises a printing element, a driving circuit configured to drive the printing element, an analog signal processing circuit configured to process one or more analog signals, a bias circuit configured to supply a bias voltage to the analog signal processing circuit, and a control terminal to which a control signal is inputted. In a state in which the analog signal processing circuit and the bias circuit are receiving a supply of power, it is possible to switch starting and stopping of at least one of the analog signal processing circuit and the bias circuit based on the control signal.

A printing apparatus includes a control unit configured to perform control so as to apply a first driving voltage to a heat generation element to discharge ink from an orifice and then apply a second driving voltage to the heat generation element so as not to cause bubbling or discharging of ink. The discharging state of an inkjet recording head can be detected. The head includes a passage communicating with a discharge port for discharging ink, a discharging heater provided in the passage for generating energy to discharge ink from the discharge port, and a detecting unit provided in the passage for detecting a temperature of ink that changes in accordance with heat energy generated by the detecting unit and a flow of ink in the passage. The method includes supplying power to the heater, subsequently applying a first pulse current to the detecting unit, then applying a second pulse current with a smaller pulse width, and measuring and comparing an output signal from the detecting unit with a threshold to measure the ink temperature.

A compact and highly reliable recording head enabling precise detection of temperature information for each nozzle and rapid as well as highly accurate detection of nozzles with a discharge defect can be achieved. A plurality of electrothermal transducing members is provided on a substrate to generate heat energy for discharging liquid from discharge ports. A temperature detecting element formed immediately under each electrothermal transducing member to sandwich an insulating film and a temperature detecting circuit for detecting temperature information from each temperature detecting element are also provided.
