An authentication system determines if a counterfeit ineligible unit is installed in a main device. When connected with a battery pack, a notebook PC generates and combines a random number and a function determination signal using a signal combining unit and transmits same to the battery pack. A first function calculation unit calculates the function of the random number. The battery pack has a signal separation unit to separate the combined signal into the random number and function determination signal, and a second function calculation unit to calculate the function of the random number for transmitting back to the notebook PC. A comparison unit compares the calculation results by the first and second function calculation units to determine whether the connected battery pack is an authorized one and denies connection if the pack is an unauthorized one.

Authentication system

A current collector sheet for an electrode of an electrochemical device has a conductive area and an insulating area on the surface thereof. Examples of the current collector sheet includes: a current collector sheet including an insulating sheet, wherein the conductive area has a conductive layer formed on the surface of the insulating sheet, and the insulating area has an exposed portion of the insulating sheet; a current collector sheet including a conductive sheet, wherein the insulating area has an insulating layer formed on the surface of the conductive sheet, and the conductive area has an exposed portion of the conductive sheet; and a current collector sheet including a conductive sheet portion and an insulating sheet portion positioned flush with each other, wherein the conductive area has a surface of the conductive sheet portion, and the insulating area has a surface of the insulating sheet portion.

Current collector sheet and electrochemical device

An electrochemical device having an electrode plate assembly. The electrode plate assembly includes (a) at least one first electrode, (b) at least one second electrode, and (c) a separator interposed between the first electrode and the second electrode. The first electrode includes a first current collector sheet and at least one first electrode mixture layer carried thereon. The second electrode includes a second current collector sheet and at least one second electrode mixture layer carried thereon. At least one of the first current collector sheet and the second current collector sheet has a conductive area and an insulating area.

Electrochemical device and method for producing the same

An electrochemical device having an electrode plate assembly that includes: (a) at least one first electrode; (b) at least one second electrode; and (c) a separator interposed between the first electrode and the second electrode, the electrode plate assembly including a PTC device. The use of the electrochemical device according to this invention makes it possible to efficiently manufacture secondary batteries with a simple structure, a high reliability and a high electrical capacity.

Method for producing non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery

In order to provide a nickel-metal hydride storage battery capable of preventing the formation of a minute chemical short circuit between the positive and negative electrodes while exhibiting an excellent self-discharge resistance, a nickel positive electrode plate is formed by filling an active material mainly composed of a hydroxide of nickel into a porous sintered nickel substrate, followed by further forming a layer of a manganese compound containing manganese with a valence of 2 or more on the surface thereof, and an alkaline storage battery is configured by using this nickel positive electrode plate.

Disclosed is a non-aqueous electrolyte battery comprising: a flat outer jacket comprising a metal sheet and having two primary flat portions facing each other; two active material layers of a first polarity respectively carried on inner surfaces of the flat portions; an electrode plate of a second polarity disposed in a position facing with each of the active material layers; and a separator layer interposed between each of the active material layers and the electrode plate of a second polarity, with the outer jacket serving as a current collector of the active material layers.

The present invention provides a high-capacity sealed nickel-metal hydride storage battery superior in high-current discharge, without extending the injection time of an electrolyte. This battery includes an electrode group, a metal case for accommodating the electrode group, and a seal plate provided with a safety vent, for sealing an opening of the case, and the electrode group has a structure in which, round a non-sintered type cylindrical electrode of one polarity, a non-sintered type hollow cylindrical electrode of the other polarity and a non-sintered type hollow cylindrical electrode of the one polarity are layered alternately in the form of concentric circles with a separator between the electrodes.

A cylindrical type alkaline storage battery includes a metallic case, a sealing plate for the metallic case, and a spiral-shaped group of electrodes. The group of electrodes includes a positive electrode plate, a negative electrode plate and a separator. The sealing plate includes a cap-shaped terminal plate, which includes a cap part and a flange, and a disc-shaped filter on the underside of the flange. The disc shaped filter has a gas venting hole in its center. A safety valve is included between the flange and the filter. A space between the metallic case and the rims of the flange and of the filter is sealed with a gasket.

Cylindrical type alkaline storage battery

The present invention provides an alkaline storage battery comprising a positive electrode containing a nickel hydroxide active material and a compound oxide in a range of 2 wt % to 30 wt % to the amount of the nickel hydroxide. The compound oxide contains at least one transition metal element and at least one rare earth element or alkaline earth metal element. The compound oxide has conductivity of 10.sup.-2 S/cm or higher at 25.degree. C. and stability in an alkaline electrolyte. Consequently, the alkaline storage battery shows excellent characteristics in a long-term preservation at a high temperature, capacity restoration, and charge/discharge cycle life.
