In a method for purifying a crude epoxidation product of a liquid conjugated diolefin polymer or a vegetable oil which comprises the steps of adding an aqueous washing agent to a crude epoxidation product which is obtained by the reaction of a liquid conjugated diolefin polymer or a vegetable oil with an organic peracid or an epoxidizing agent capable of generating an organic peracid in situ, stirring the mixture, leaving the mixture to stand to induce phase separation and thereafter withdrawing the organic layer, the improvement wherein 50 to 300 parts by weight, per 100 parts by weight of the crude epoxidation product, of a 10-80% by weight aqueous solution of isopropanol is used as the washing agent.

Method for purifying an epoxidation product

There is disclosed a water-soluble coating composition having excellent properties including corrosion resistance, adhesion, impact resistance and so on. The coating composition comprises an adduct of a butadiene lower polymer or copolymer and .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid compound resulting from the special addition reaction, a hydrophilic solvent and a neutralizer.

Water-soluble coating composition

There is disclosed a water-soluble coating composition having excellent properties including corrosion resistance, adhesion, impact resistance and so on. The coating composition comprises an adduct of a butadiene lower polymer or copolymer and .alpha., .beta.-ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid compound resulting from the special addition reaction, a hydrophilic solvent and a neutralizer.

A process for producing a film-forming material, which comprises graft-polymerizing a monomer having a radical polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated group in the presence of a radical initiator with a butadiene polymer of a low degree of polymerization having a number average molecular weight of 300 to 10,000, a butadiene copolymer of a low degree of polymerization containing not more than 50% by weight of a copolymer component, or a mixture of these, in the form of an aqueous solution, said butadiene polymer or copolymer in aqueous solution or aqueous dispersion containing 0.05 to 0.5 mole, per 100 g of the polymer, of a basic group of the general formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or an organic group containing 1 to 8 carbon atoms; R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are identical or different and represent an organic group containing 1 to 20 carbon atoms; R.sub.4 represents a hydrogen atom or an organic group containing 1 to 20 carbon atoms; and X represents a hydrogen atom or a bond, and when X is a bond, the carbon atom attached to R.sub.1 and the adjacent carbon atom to which hydrogen is attached may form a part of the main chain.

Process for producing water-dispersible film-forming material

A coating composition is disclosed which is curable at room temperature uniformly at and through the surface and inner portions of a film formed upon application of the composition to an article. The coating composition is characterized by the combination with a starting butadiene polymer (to which an acid is added) of a poly-(metha)-acrylate of a polyhydric alcohol, at least one of the compounds which have an allyl ether group, a tetrahydrofurfuryl group or a benzyl ether group, a radical generator and, if desired, a pigment.

When a lower polymer of butadiene or a lower copolymer of butadiene with a conjugated diolefin other than butadiene or a vinyl-substituted aromatic comonomer is reacted at 0 to 200.degree. C. in the presence of a combination catalyst including an organic alkali metal compound and a specific diamino compound, the non-conjugated double bonds are effectively isomerized to the conjugated diene double bonds at a very high conversion, and a polymer having a high reactivity, which is useful as a paint vehicle, a thermosetting material, an adhesive, a rubber compounding material and an intermediate for various synthetic reactions, can be obtained.

Process for isomerization of lower polymers of butadiene

In a method for preparing an adduct of (A) a butadiene lower polymer or butadiene lower copolymer and (B) a .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid compound, said method is characterized in that said (A) and (B) are caused to react in the presence of one or more compounds selected from (C) p-phenylenediamine derivatives, catechol derivatives, pyrogallol derivatives, N-nitrosamines, quinoline derivatives and naphthol derivatives, thus serious increase of the viscosity of said adduct in the addition reaction can be prevented.
