An image processing apparatus in which the amount of data bits for each of plural block units is controlled to be the same for all block units, so as to facilitate location of each block unit in coded image data without necessarily decoding the entire image. Pixel image data which is formable into plural block units is input for each block unit, and the input image data is orthogonally transformed. The orthogonally-transformed image data is quantized, and variable-length coding is performed on the quantized image data so as to generate variable-length code. The amount of variable length code in each block unit is controlled to be no more than a predetermined amount of data bits, with the predetermined amount being the same for each block unit.

An output control method and an apparatus are provided, by which even in the case where aspect ratios of a thumbnail image and a main image are different, an image with the aspect ratio of the main image can properly be displayed. The apparatus has a TV display control part for displaying image data imaged by a digital camera on a TV, and the TV display control part compares aspect ratios of a thumbnail image and a main image in the image data, and performs control so that the thumbnail image is used as display data to be displayed on the TV when they are the same, and that the main image is used as the display data when they are different.

A digital camera which performs accurate document reading, and is used in a document processing system. In the document processing system, a document is divided into blocks and each block is sensed by a CCD, and perspective correction is performed on the image data of each of a plurality of images obtained by divisionally sensing the document. An OCR process is performed on the corrected image data to convert the corrected image data to text data. The converted text data, corresponding to the image data of each of the plurality of images, is combined into one text data, and the combined text data is output for printing.
