An object of the invention is to provide an optical display manufacturing system or method that allows an increase in the yield of an optical film, a reduction in cost and an improvement in inventory control. An optical display manufacturing system includes feeding means () that feeds a belt and sheet-shaped product () having an optical film from a roll () of the belt and sheet-shaped product, detection means () that detects a defect of the belt and sheet-shaped product fed by the feeding means, cutting means () that cuts the belt and sheet-shaped product into individual sheet-shaped products based on the result of the detection, transfer means () that transports each of the sheet-shaped products from the cutting process to a sticking process, and sticking means () that sticks the transported sheet-shaped product to an optical display unit.

System and method for manufacturing optical display

An optical compensation plate provided in a liquid crystal cell in which a distance of a liquid crystal layer is held through a spacer, in which the optical compensation plate is formed in such a way that a layer thickness becomes thin toward a central portion from an end portion. As the spacer, a spherical fine particle is employed. As a liquid crystal cell, a VA mode liquid crystal cell is employed. Since the optical compensation plate of the present invention has a thinner layer thickness in the central portion in response to a decrease in a cell gap in the central region of the liquid crystal cell, light leakage in the central region of the liquid crystal layer can be prevented well.

A reflection type liquid-crystal display apparatus has a light source; and a liquid-crystal display device including a lower substrate provided with a reflection plate, an upper substrate provided with a transparent film on which a light reflection element is provided for reflecting transmitted light toward the lower substrate side, and liquid crystal held between the lower substrate and the upper substrate, the light source being disposed at an end surface of the upper substrate, the liquid-crystal display device being configured so that light incident onto a surface of the upper substrate opposite to a contact surface of the upper substrate with the liquid crystal is reflected by the reflection plate of the lower substrate so as to exit from the surface of the upper substrate opposite to the contact surface of the upper substrate with the liquid crystal, wherein at least one of end surfaces except the end surface on which the light source is disposed is coated with a reflection layer.

Reflection type liquid-crystal display apparatus

A liquid-crystal display apparatus having a liquid-crystal panel, the liquid-crystal panel including a lower transparent substrate having a transparent electrode on at least one of its opposite surfaces, an upper transparent substrate having a transparent electrode opposite to the transparent electrode of the lower substrate, and liquid crystal held between the lower substrate and the upper substrate, wherein the upper substrate is thicker than the lower substrate. Preferably, the thickness of the lower substrate is not larger than &frac23; as large as the thickness of the upper substrate in order to achieve reduction in thickness and weight more effectively.

Liquid-crystal display apparatus

A reflection-transmission double type liquid-crystal display device has a transmission type liquid-crystal display panel including a liquid-crystal cell, at least one illuminator disposed on at least one side surface of the liquid-crystal display panel, an optical path changing sheet which has a refractive index exhibiting a refractive index difference of not higher than 0.15 from a refractive index of a nearest liquid-crystal cell substrate and is bonded onto a back side of the liquid-crystal display panel through an adhesive layer having a refractive index exhibiting a refractive index difference of not higher than 0.20 from the refractive index of the nearest liquid-crystal cell substrate, and a reflection layer disposed on a back side of the optical path changing sheet. The optical path changing sheet includes optical path changing slopes and flat surfaces. Each of the optical path changing slopes faces the illuminator at an inclination angle in a range of from 30 to 48 degrees with respect to a plane of the optical path changing sheet and being provided for reflecting incident light from the illuminator toward the visual side of the liquid-crystal display panel. Each of the flat surfaces is inclined at an inclination angle of not larger than 10 degrees with respect to the sheet plane, and a projected area of the flat surfaces on the sheet plane is not smaller than 10 times as large as a projected area of the optical path changing slopes.

Reflection-transmission double type liquid-crystal display device

In a light pipe unit, a surface light pipe includes at least upper and lower surfaces and connected side surfaces constituted by an incident side surface formed between the upper and lower surfaces and side surfaces adjacent to the incident side surface. A linear light pipe includes a light supply surface, and the surface light pipe is connected to the linear light pipe through the connected side surfaces and the light supply surface so that the linear light pipe converts incident light from a point light source into a linear light source and outputs the light of the linear light source through the light supply surface. The surface light pipe converts incident light from the linear light source into a plane light source. In another light pipe unit, a linear light pipe for converting incident light from a point light source into a linear light source, and a surface light pipe for converting incident light from the linear light source into a plane light source are provided. The linear light pipe and the surface light pipe are partially connected to each other. Further, a plane light source unit wherein a point light source is disposed on the linear light pipe of one of the above light pipe units and a liquid-crystal display device provided with the above-mentioned plane light source unit and a liquid crystal cell are provided.
