Provided is a method for manufacturing a liquid ejection head substrate and a method for manufacturing a liquid ejection head capable of reducing degradation of the quality of a printed image. To this end, in formation of a liquid ejection head substrate, a part required to have more precise relative positional relation or not required to have high fabrication precision is set as a first part, and for the first part, a single-shot exposure method is employed. Also, a part required to have higher fabrication precision is set as a second part, and for the second part, a split exposure method is employed.

The multilayer structured element substrate comprises a plurality of print elements, and a circuit configured to input a data signal and a clock signal used for driving the plurality of print elements. And, a print element array formed by arranging the plurality of print elements in line is diagonally arranged with respect to a side constituting an outer shape of the element substrate. A print element at one end of the print element array is a dummy element not contributing to printing. The circuit is provided not only at the same position as that of the dummy element but also in a layer different from that of the dummy element.

This invention is directed to real time detection of occurrence of a transfer error and feedback of the detection result to a printing apparatus in consideration of a possible risk that a signal transfer error occurs on a transfer path that becomes longer as the printhead is elongated. To accomplish this, in a printhead configured by cascade-connecting a plurality of element substrates, information of a transfer error detected in real time in each element substrate during transfer of a print data signal is output to an element substrate on the next stage by taking account of information input from an element substrate on the preceding stage. Information containing pieces of information from all element substrates is output from an element substrate on the final stage.
