A head suspension including a base plate, a load beam, an actuator element to be deformed to move the load beam relative to the base plate, and a jumper having a first end electrically connected to the actuator element, an intermediate part extending over a base plate edge of the base plate, and a second end electrically connected to a flexure, to supply power from the flexure to the actuator element. The jumper is composed of an insulating cover layer, a conductor layer, an insulating layer, and a metal layer that are laid one on another. The conductor layer is diverged in a direction in which the layers of the jumper are laid one on another, to form an escape recess to avoid an edge of the base plate edge to protect the insulating cover layer of the jumper from being abraded by an edge of the base plate.

A suspension for a disc drive includes a base plate, a load beam, and a flexure. The flexure includes a metal base member and a circuit member disposed along the metal base member. The circuit member extends along the load beam. The circuit member includes a resin base member formed of a first polyimide, conductors, and a resin cover member formed of a second polyimide. The resin cover member is lower than the resin base member in humidity expansion coefficient.

Suspension for disc drive

A suspension for disc drive includes a base plate, a load beam, and a flexure. The flexure includes a metal base member and a circuit member disposed along the metal base member. The circuit member extends in a longitudinal direction of the load beam. The circuit member includes a resin base member formed of an electrically insulating resin and conductors. The conductors are formed into predetermined circuit patterns by etching a deposited copper layer deposited on the resin base member. Each conductor has a cross section in the shape of a trapezoid such that the width of a surface of the conductor which faces the resin base member is greater than that of a surface of the conductor on the side opposite from the resin base member.

A head suspension for a hard disk drive has a base attached to a carriage of the hard disk drive and is turned around a spindle. A load beam includes a rigid part and a resilient part which applies load onto a head at a front end of the load beam to write and read data to and from a disk arranged in the hard disk drive. The rigid part is supported to the base through the resilient part. A flexure is attached to at least the rigid part of the load beam and has read/write wiring patterns connected to the head. A recessed portion or a through-hole portion is formed in at least one of the load beam and the base for avoiding vibration contact of the flexure.

To be capable of precisely positioning a head on a track of a high-density disk rotated at high speed in the disk drive, a head suspension has a plate () to be attached to a carriage of the disk drive and turned around a spindle, a load beam () having a rigid part () and a resilient part () and supported by the plate, a front end of the rigid part applying load on a head () that writes and reads information to and from the disk, a flexure () supporting the head, and an extension () having a length (L2) and extending from the plate along the rigid part of the load beam toward the head. The flexure is supported at least by the extension of the plate, and at least supporting the flexure.

Disk drive head suspension with flexure and load beam supported on opposite sides of carriage arm

A head suspension for a disk drive has a load beam, a base plate, and a recess. The base plate has a thin flange and is capable of improving the attaching accuracy and strength of the head suspension to a carriage arm of the disk drive. The base plate has the flange and a boss. The flange has a contact face to be attached to a contact face of the carriage arm. The boss is inserted into a hole of the carriage arm and plastically deformed therein to fix the base plate to the carriage arm. The load beam has a rigid part and a resilient part and is supported by the base plate, to apply load on a slider arranged at a front end of the load beam. The recess is formed on the base plate along a corner between the flange and the boss, to secure a gap relative to the contact face of the carriage arm.
