A liquid crystal display device includes a first liquid crystal display panel in which a first main pixel including subpixels is arranged in a matrix, and that displays a color image, and a second liquid crystal display panel that includes a second main pixel corresponding to a plurality of the first main pixel, and that displays a monochrome image. The second main pixel is divided into a plurality of regions, and has pixel electrodes disposed in the plurality of regions and a plurality of light shields. At least a portion of the plurality of light shields is formed from a switching element that connects to each of the pixel electrodes, and the plurality of light shields is arranged in a staggered manner. The light shields positioned within one set of the regions formed from adjacent regions forms one set of the light shields.

Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display device includes a first liquid crystal display panel, and a second liquid crystal display panel that overlaps the first liquid crystal display panel. At least one of the first liquid crystal display panel and the second liquid crystal display panel includes a light blocking pattern that is repeatedly arranged and has light blocking properties. The light blocking pattern includes a first light blocking line and a second light blocking line that extend in a predetermined direction. The first light blocking line includes a first incline inclined with respect to the predetermined direction, and a second incline inclined in a direction opposite the first incline with respect to the predetermined direction, and the second light blocking line is adjacent to the first light blocking line and is line-symmetrical, with respect to the predetermined direction, to the first light blocking line. At least one of the first light blocking line and the second light blocking line is formed from one of scan wirings and signal wiring of the first liquid crystal display panel and the second liquid crystal display panel.

A liquid crystal display device includes a first liquid crystal display panel and a second liquid crystal display panel. The second liquid crystal display panel includes a scanning wiring extending in a zig-zag in the predetermined first direction. A period of bending points of the scanning wiring corresponds to a predetermined number of the sub pixels of the first liquid crystal display panel. The predetermined number is greater that a number of colors of the sub pixels arranged in the predetermined first direction in one of the first main pixel of the first liquid crystal display panel, and is not a natural number multiple of the number of colors of the sub pixels repeatedly arranged along the predetermined first direction of the first liquid crystal display panel.

A display device includes a first liquid crystal panel configured to display an image to be seen by the observer, and a second liquid crystal panel laid on the first liquid crystal panel. The second liquid crystal panel includes a black matrix defining pixels, opaque gate lines disposed to be distant from one another in a first direction, and opaque data lines disposed to be distant from one another in a second direction different from the first direction. Lines of the black matrix disposed to be distant from one another in the first direction and the gate lines constitute dark lines disposed at a specified pitch in the first direction. Lines of the black matrix disposed to be distant from one another in the second direction and the data lines constitute dark lines disposed at a specified pitch in the second direction.

A liquid crystal display device includes a first liquid crystal display panel that displays a color image, a second liquid crystal display panel that displays a monochrome image, and a display controller that controls the display of the first liquid crystal display panel and the display of the second liquid crystal display panel. The display controller switches the display of the second liquid crystal display panel between a monochrome display that displays a monochrome image and an all-white display. In a state in which the display of the second liquid crystal display panel is the monochrome display, when a response time between predetermined gradations is greater than or equal to a predetermined first response time, the display controller switches the display of the second liquid crystal display panel from the monochrome display to the all-white display.

A light source device for a display device includes a planar light source and a monochrome liquid crystal panel. The monochrome liquid crystal panel includes a plurality of pixel electrodes. Pixel electrodes adjacent to each other in the plurality of pixel electrodes partially overlap each other within one pixel. The monochrome liquid crystal panel includes an exclusive region including a part of one of the plurality of pixel electrodes but not including the other pixel electrodes and an overlap region including parts of pixel electrodes adjacent to each other.

Light source device for display device and liquid crystal display device

A driving potential is given to the first electrodes and the third electrodes, respectively. A common potential is given to the second electrodes and the fourth electrodes, respectively. Each of the third electrodes is located at a layer closer to the liquid crystal as compared to the second electrodes, and intersects with one of the second electrodes through an insulating layer. Each of the fourth electrodes is located at a layer closer to the liquid crystal as compared to the first electrodes, and intersects with one of the first electrodes through an insulating layer. A width of the third electrodes is the same as each other at respective intersections of the the third electrodes and the the second electrodes. A width of the fourth electrodes is the same as each other at respective intersections of the the fourth electrodes and the the first electrodes.

In a liquid crystal display apparatus in which a first substrate and a second substrate are disposed in parallel to each other through a liquid crystal layer, a liquid crystal molecule in the liquid crystal layer is rotated in a plane parallel to the first substrate and the second substrate by driving voltage applied to the liquid crystal layer. A voltage value corresponding to a maximum gradation value of the driving voltage applied to the liquid crystal layer is a driving voltage value at which transmittance peaks based on V-T characteristics in an inclination direction inclined from a normal direction of a display surface of the liquid crystal display apparatus to a direction in which a refractive index of the liquid crystal layer is maximum.

Liquid crystal display apparatus and control circuit

A light ray direction controlling device includes: a plurality of louver elements switching between a transparent state and a light absorption state in accordance with an applied voltage, and a plurality of polymer dispersed liquid crystal parts arranged along the primary surface of the substrate between the plurality of louver elements, respectively. The polymer dispersed liquid crystal parts each includes a solid polymer resin part and liquid crystal drops dispersed in the solid polymer resin part. The polymer dispersed liquid crystal parts each changes a degree of scattering of exiting light by changing a degree of scattering of incident light in accordance with an applied voltage.

Light ray direction controlling device and display device

To acquire a fine viewing angle property from oblique view fields in a lateral electric field type liquid crystal display device having liquid crystal initial alignment directions in two orthogonal directions. The absorption axis of the incident-side polarization plate and the absorption axis of the exit-side polarization plate are orthogonal to each other in both of the region I and the region II, and the liquid crystal layer, the in-cell retarder as an optical compensation layer, the A-plate, and the C-plate sandwiched therebetween are in parallel to either one of the absorption axes or orthogonal to the substrates. Therefore, the transmittance can be suppressed to be low and a fine black display can be acquired even when the display surface is viewed from the oblique view fields.

A liquid crystal lenticular lens element that: comprises a first substrate, a second substrate that is parallel thereto, a liquid crystal layer that is provided between the substrates, a first electrode that is formed on the liquid crystal layer side of the first substrate, and a second electrode comprising a plurality of stripe-shaped electrodes that are formed on the liquid crystal layer side of the second substrate; and that is characterized by having a configuration in which a stripe-shaped repeating structure that comprises a repeating unit along the arrangement direction of the second electrode is formed and an asymmetrical refractive index distribution is induced on a plane that bisects each of the repeating units in a direction that is perpendicular to the arrangement direction by applying an electrical signal from the exterior to each of the electrodes.

Liquid crystal lenticular lens element, driving method therefor, stereoscopic display device, and terminal device

Provided is to a display element capable of displaying an image on both sides thereof. In the display element, display operation is not constantly performed on both sides, and the display operation is, as necessary, switched to displaying only on one side without lowering the efficiency of a backlight or other light emitting bodies. The structure is made such that a planar light emitting body capable of emitting light in directions of both faces is sandwiched between two light control elements capable of electrically switching, from outside, between a light reflection state and a light transmission state. In such a structure, the faces of the light control elements serving as light reflection surfaces in the light reflection state face the planar light emitting body, and the planar light emitting body and the light control elements are further sandwiched between two liquid crystal elements.

Display element, backlight and portable information device using the display element

A liquid crystal display apparatus comprises a planar first electrode, multiple second electrodes and third electrodes that overlap with the first electrode and are alternately arranged, in correspondence to one subpixel. The second electrode and the third electrode are independently driven. A voltage for driving the liquid crystal is individually applied between the second electrode and the first electrode and between the third electrode and the first electrode.

Liquid crystal display apparatus

Provided is a liquid crystal display device and a method for producing the same, wherein one electrode is composed of four segmented electrodes (P, P, P, P) and has segmented orientations (O, O, O, O), and the segmented electrode (p) has the same structure as that of segmented electrodes (P') of adjacent pixels (at three positions of right, below, and lower right). An area surrounding four segmented electrodes (P(P&#x2032;)) that are present in adjacent four pixels having the same structure is processed with the same segmented orientation (O). With this configuration, excellent viewing angle properties are maintained even with high-definition pixels, and efficient processing with segmented orientations can be performed.
