The present invention provides a method of recovering a heavy metal by which the variation in heavy metal recovery rate among samples can be suppressed. A mixture of a sample and a chelating agent capable of chelating with a heavy metal is prepared. A complex between a heavy metal being in the sample and the chelating agent is formed in the presence of a masking agent for a thiol group in the mixture. The heavy metal in the sample is recovered by recovering the complex. By this method, a heavy metal can be recovered with suppressing the variation in the recovery rate among samples. The chelating agent preferably is 1,5-diphenyl-3-thiocarbazone (dithizone). As the masking agent, N-ethylmaleimide, iodoacetamide, iodoacetic acid, or the like can be used.

The present invention relates to a technique of measuring a protein based on a degree of coloring in a liquid sample mixed with a protein measurement indicator. In the present invention, information reflecting creatinine concentration in the liquid sample is obtained, and then an influence quantity caused by creatinine to the protein concentration measurement is eliminated based on the information.

The present invention provides a novel test piece for creatinine measurement. The test piece includes a compound expressed by the following formula (1), a metal that forms a colored complex with the compound, and a buffer agent in a porous material. The amount of creatinine is determined by optically measuring a colored complex of the compound and the metal and evaluating the degree of inhibition of the colored complex formation by creatinine.
