The invention relates to a glass plate including (a) a glass substrate having a major surface divided into a central major portion and a peripheral portion surrounding the central major portion; and (b) an oxide film formed on the central major portion by baking a precursory film. The oxide film is not formed on the peripheral portion such that the peripheral portion is free from shrinkage force caused by the baking.

An antifogging article includes a substrate and an antifogging film covering the substrate. This antifogging film contains a water-absorbing organic polymer and an inorganic substance and has a water repellent finishing on a surface of the antifogging film. Another antifogging article includes (1) a substrate, (2) a water-absorbing, antifogging film covering the substrate, and (3) a water-permeable, protective film covering the antifogging film. This antifogging film contains (a) a polyvinyl acetal resin having a degree of acetalization of not greater than 10 mol % and (b) a hydrolysate or partial hydrolysate of an alkylsilylisocyanate represented by the general formula R SiR where R is an alkyl group having a carbon atom number of 1 or 2, R is an isocyanate group, and n is 1 or 2. These antifogging articles are superior in antifogging property and abrasion resistance.

The invention relates to a water-repellent glass pane having a glass substrate and a water-repellent film formed thereon. This glass pane is prepared by a first or second method. The first method includes sequential steps of (a) mixing together a raw material for producing the water-repellent film, an organic solvent for diluting the raw material, and water for hydrolyzing the raw material, such that the raw material is subjected to hydrolysis and then to dehydration and polycondensation, thereby to turn a mixture of the raw material, the organic solvent and the water into a sol; (b) adjusting water content of the sol, thereby to prepare a coating liquid; and (c) applying the coating liquid to the glass substrate, in an atmosphere having a first temperature and a relative humidity. The second method includes sequential steps of: (a) subjecting a surface of the glass substrate to an abrasive treatment; (b) subjecting the surface of the glass substrate to an acid treatment; and (c) applying a coating liquid to the surface of the glass substrate. The glass pane prepared by the first or second method is superior in abrasion resistance, sunshine resistance, hardness, adhesion to the glass substrate, and water-repellency for a long time.

Water-repellent glass pane and method for producing same

The invention relates to an article having a substrate and photocatalytic film covering the substrate. This film contains (1) a film-forming component including ZrO and SiO and (2) TiO crystals dispersed in the film-forming component. These ZrO , SiO and TiO crystals respectively are in amounts of 25-60 wt %, 15-50 wt % and 25-45 wt %, based on the weight of the film. The article is improved in photocatalytic activity, abrasion resistance and chemical resistance by the provision of the film.

An antifogging article includes a substrate and an antifogging film covering the substrate. The invention relates to a water-repellent glass plate having a glass substrate; a first film which is formed on the glass substrate and is made of silica; and a water-repellent second film formed on the first film. This glass plate is prepared by a method including steps of: (1) applying a first coating liquid containing tetraisocyanate silane to the glass substrate, thereby to form thereon a precursory film; and (2) subjecting the precursory film to a drying at room temperature or to a heat treatment, thereby to prepare the first film; and (3) applying a second coating liquid to the first film, thereby to form the second film on the first film. The tetraisocyanate silane of the step (1) is curable at room temperature. The second coating liquid contains an alkoxysilane having at least one fluorocarbon group substituted for at least one hydrogen atom thereof. By the provision of the first film, the water-repellent second film becomes superior in solar resistance, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, and adhesion to the glass substrate.
