Provided are a sliding member for sealing and a seal device that exhibit good sealing performance even when used in an environment where silicon oxide is likely to be deposited; the sliding member for sealing includes a sintered body consisting of 1.0 to 12.5 wt.% of cerium oxide, a combination of 20 to 50 wt.% of graphite and graphitizable carbon, and a remainder of non-graphitizable carbon; and, the sliding member for sealing is used as, for example, a rotary seal ring or a stationary seal ring.

Sliding member for sealing and seal device

For better assembling characteristic and sealing performance with secured circularity and coaxiality of a seal lip, a lip type seal installed to an inner periphery of a shaft hole of a housing in slidable contact with a peripheral surface of a shaft for inhibiting a sealed fluid in the machine from leaking to an atmospheric air side, has a cartridge fitted to an inner periphery of the shaft hole, a first lip seal member made of a rubber-like elastic material and fitted in a non-bonding manner to the cartridge, a case fitted in a non-bonding manner to the first lip seal member, a second lip seal member made of a resin and a backup ring supporting the second lip seal member which are retained by caulking to the case, and an adapter fitted to the cartridge at a sealed fluid side of the first lip seal member.

Lip type seal

To enable to use a lip type seal at installation positions where shaft diameters are same but shaft hole diameters are different, an installation structure is made such that a lip type seal () is installed to an inner periphery of a shaft hole () via a cartridge () arranged at an outer peripheral side of the lip type seal, the cartridge () has a large-diameter tube portion () and a small-diameter tube portion () via a step portion (), and is fitted to the inner periphery of the shaft hole () by an outer peripheral surface of the large-diameter tube portion (), while the lip type seal () is fitted to an inner peripheral surface of the small-diameter tube portion (), and only a diameter of the large-diameter tube portion () is set in conformity to a diameter of a shaft hole to be installed.

Installation structure for lip type seal

For easier separation and sorting by material of constructing parts and better assembly retainability among the constructing parts and installing workability, a lip type seal has a elastic material-made first lip seal member () including a cylinder portion () fitted into a shaft hole () and a first seal lip () arranged at a sealed fluid side (A) and contacted with a shaft (), a resin-made second lip seal member () including a second seal lip () arranged at an atmospheric air side (B) and contacted with the shaft (), a metal-made spacer ring () arranged at the sealed fluid side (A) of the second lip seal member (), and a metal-made retaining ring () retaining the spacer ring () and the second lip seal member (), and these parts are assembled without bonding, so that the retaining ring () is fitted to the first lip seal member ().

Seal for a rotary shaft

Sliding element for seals includes 25 to 75 weight % carbonaceous impalpable powdery aggregate of non-graphitizing carbon and/or graphitizing carbon and 20 to 50 weight % synthetic resin as binder. The sliding element is blended with the range of 5 to 25 weight % carbonaceous carbon fibers without surface treatment and inside the carbon matrix, the carbon fibers are randomly scattered.

Sliding element for seals and their process of manufacturing

Described herein is a sliding element for seals mainly comprised of 25 to 75 weight % carbon aggregate and 20 to 50 weight % thermosetting synthetic resin binder. The element has spherical pores whose diameter is in the range of from 1 to 100 &#x3bc;m. The pores are isolatedly scattered in the element. The sliding element for seals is excellent both in solid and fluid lubrication properties.
