An image forming apparatus having a cartridge includes an image forming device acting on an image bearing member and a driving force transmitting device which is adapted to transmit a driving force from an apparatus side to a cartyridge side and which is separable from the image forming device. The apparatus also includes a drive source. The image forming device and the driving force transmitting device are integrally mountable to the apparatus.

Driving cartridge for an image forming apparatus

An image forming apparatus usable with a process cartridge for forming an image on a recording material. The process cartridge includes an image bearing member, and at least one developing device for developing a latent image formed on the image bearing member with a developer. Each of said at least one developing devices includes a developer accommodating device for accommodating a respective developer to be used in said at least one developing device. The image forming apparatus includes a mounting device for mounting the process cartridge, an auxiliary developing device exterior to the process cartridge for developing a latent image formed on the image bearing member with a developer, the auxiliary developing device including an auxiliary developer accommodating device for accommodating the developer to be used in the auxiliary developing device, and a detecting device for detecting a respective predetermined level of developer in the auxiliary developer accommodating device and in each of the respective developer accommodating devices of said at least one developing device.

Image forming apparatus having toner depletion detection feature

An image forming apparatus includes a detachably mountable process cartridge, the process cartridge including an image bearing member and a color developing device actable on the image bearing member, the color developing device containing plural developing units having yellow developer, respectively; detachably mountable developing device actable on the image bearing member in the process cartridge, the detachably mountable developing device containing black developer and being detachably mountable independently of the process cartridge; and a device for forming a latent image on the image bearing member; a transfer device for transferring a developed image from the image bearing member to a recording material.

Image forming apparatus

A process cartridge integrally supports an electrophotographic photosensitive member and a plurality of developing units and removable with respect to an image forming apparatus. The driving force from the image forming apparatus can be selectively transmitted to any one of the developing units and the transmission of the driving force to all of the developing units is blocked during the non-image forming process. Thus, the operability of dismounting of the cartridge from the image forming apparatus is improved.

A cleaning device in an image forming apparatus for removing developer, dust and/or corona products adhering to a surface to be cleaned includes a cleaning member bearing against a surface to be cleaned to clean the surface to be cleaned, receiving means for receiving magnetic powder removed from the surface to be cleaned by the cleaning member, and magnets provided at the opposite ends of the cleaning member to prevent the magnetic powder removed from the surface to be cleaned by the cleaning member from scattering outwardly.
