A sheet sorting apparatus includes a discharge port through which sheets are discharged, a stacking tray on which the sheets discharged from the discharge port are stacked, a sheet sorting member provided on a stacking surface on which the sheets of the stacking tray are stacked, and an operation mechanism for operating the sheet sorting member. The sheet sorting member is provided to be able to rise from the stacking surface by employing one end of the sheet sorting member as a pivot point, at a position at which the sheets fall from the discharge port. The sheet sorting member rises from the stacking surface by the operation mechanism, thereby forming an inclined surface, guiding the sheets placed on the inclined surface along the inclined surface, and shifting the sheets stacked on the stacking tray to a discharge direction of the sheets and a direction perpendicular to the discharge direction.

An optical scanning device includes a light source, a deflector, an incident optical system and one scanning lens. The scanning lens includes a first face and a second face. In a main scanning direction cross section of the scanning lens, when a scanning range is separated, with on axis as a reference, into an image height region of a first direction and an image height region of a second direction that is opposite to the first direction, the incident optical system is disposed on a side of the image height region of the first direction. Curvature of the first face in a sub scanning direction cross section decreases from on axis toward off axis in the main scanning direction, and curvature of the second face in the sub scanning direction cross section increases from off axis of the first direction toward the second direction in the main scanning direction.

An optical scanning device includes a light source which emits a light beam, a deflector, an incident optical system and one scanning lens. The deflector reflects and deflects/scans the light beam emitted from the light source. The scanning lens includes a first face facing the deflector and a second face on an opposite side to the first face, and performs imaging of the deflected/scanned light beam on a surface to be scanned. Scanning optical apparatus

An optical scanning apparatus which does not require a complex shaped lens and which is capable of eliminating the bow of a beam light even when the shapes of a plurality of correcting lenses are unified by setting a shape of a sub-scanning cross-section of a scanning lens as a spherical surface when an incident angle condition to incident beam light is an angle of 2&#xb0; or less against a cross-section which is at right angles to a rotational axis of a polygonal mirror. The curvature of an incident surface and an outputting surface of the scanning lens in the sub scanning direction is monotonically changed according to the position in the main scanning direction with respect to the distance from the predetermined center position in the main scanning direction.

By magnifying a beam light from a polarizer by a scanning lens (also referred to as a magnifying lens) and a decentered lens (serving as a correcting lens) which is a lens arranged in a side of a scanning surface with an axis thereof decentered relative to a light axis of the beam light, a spherical aberration normally exacerbated by magnifying the beam light by the scanning lens is suppressed. In addition, even if the scanning lens and the correcting lens are arranged close to the polarizer, main scanning magnification is kept small and spherical aberration is suppressed.

A scanning optical apparatus capable of keeping sub scanning magnification small, arid further, of keeping the apparatus size small without elongating lenses, also suppresses spherical aberration relative to a scanning surface of a beam light small, thereby illuminating the beam light of high quality on the scanning surface. A beam light from a scanner is magnified by a scanning lens (magnifying lens). This allows sub scanning magnification to be minimized. Also, spherical aberration which is ordinarily aggravated since the beam light is magnified by the scanning lens is suppressed by arranging a correcting lens in the downstream from the scanning lens, as being decentered relative to a light axis of the beam light.

A scanning optical apparatus capable of maintaining sub scanning magnification small, and further, keeping the apparatus size small without elongating lenses, also suppresses spherical aberration relative to a scanning surface of a beam light small, thereby illuminating the beam light of high quality on the scanning surface. A beam light from a scanner is magnified by a scanning lens (magnifying lens), allowing sub scanning magnification be minimized. Also, while spherical aberration is normally aggravated since the beam light is magnified by the scanning lens, spherical aberration is suppressed by forming a correcting lens downstream from the scanning lens in a surface-decentered shape with respect to a light axis of the beam light.

A bar code reading arrangement (apparatus and method) for reading and combining and connecting fragmentary read data. A bar code scanner provides a plurality of one-dimensional images and comprises an image sensor for reading the bar code data. As the scanner is moved relative to the bar code, a plurality of parallel scanning lines are formed from the one-dimensional images. Bar code data segments from the scanning lines are read by the image sensor and are combined in accordance with a pre-processing and combining method. The pre-processing method comprises the steps of: reading information on the image sensor concerning the positions of end points located at or near both ends of the bar code; defining an end point as being fixed or moving, based on the relative positional change of the end point; and reading the data segments as both bar code information, and positional information with respect to the positions of the end points.
