There is disclosed a magneto-optical information reproducing apparatus which can perform information reproducing with a low crosstalk level, and the apparatus comprises a biasing electromagnet for generating a reproducing magnetic field, and an MPU for adjusting an intensity of the magnetic field generated by the biasing electromagnet with respect to a land and a groove so that with respect to one of the land and the groove in which reproducing object information is recorded, a level of a crosstalk attributed to the information recorded in the other one of the land and the groove is lowered.

Magneto-optical information reproducing apparatus

A battery pack is detachably provided for a drive main body. When carrying, an interface card and a connector cable are detachably supported and fixed to the drive main body by a holder member, thereby packaging. A power source is supplied from an upper apparatus to a control IC circuit unit of a device via the interface card. Only when both of the power supply from the upper apparatus and the power supply from an external power source unit are detected, the power source from the external power source unit is supplied to a device circuit unit, thereby making the device circuit unit operative.

The information storage device includes a carriage, an optical head mounted on the carriage and having an objective lens and an actuator for moving the objective lens, a first driving mechanism for moving the carriage in a first direction, and a magnetic head assembly mounted on the carriage and having a magnetic head. The information storage device further includes a light emitting element mounted on the optical head and a photodetector mounted on the magnetic head assembly for detecting light emitted from the light emitting element. A misalignment between the optical head and the magnetic head is detected by using the photodetector and the light emitted from the light emitting element.

The optical information storage device includes a phase plate provided in an optical path of the reflected light beam so as to be tiltable between a first position where the phase plate gives to the reflected light beam a first phase compensation amount required for detection of signals from the lands and a second position where the phase plate gives to the reflected light beam a second phase compensation amount required for detection of signals from the grooves; and a drive mechanism for tilting the phase plate. Examples of the drive mechanism include a solenoid, DC motor, and voice coil motor.

A disk drive adapted to accept and eject a disk cartridge accommodating a disk includes a carriage movable in a radial direction of the disk, a magnetic head assembly mounted on the carriage and having a magnetic head, and a cartridge ejecting mechanism for ejecting the disk cartridge from the disk drive. The disk drive further includes a magnetic head lifter pivotally movable between a first position where the magnetic head lifter is engaged with the magnetic head assembly to lift the magnetic head from the disk when the disk cartridge is not inserted in the disk drive and a second position where the magnetic head lifter is pushed by the disk cartridge to gradually disengage from the magnetic head assembly and allow contact of the magnetic head with the disk when the disk cartridge is inserted into the disk drive.

The present invention provides a disc storage unit that utilizes a voice coil motor to move an access arm. The voice coil motor includes a coil disposed on the side of the access arm parallel with the case bodies of the disc storage unit, a pair of upper and lower yokes, with the coil located therebetween, mounted in parallel to the case bodies, and magnets disposed on at least one of the upper and lower yokes with a cross flux to the coil. At least one of the upper or lower yokes extends through a through-hole provided in at least one of the case bodies. The space gained by the through-hole can be used to reduce the profile of the disc storage unit or permit larger magnets, yokes, etc. to be used in the voice coil motor. The larger magnets, yokes, etc., improve the output of the voice coil motor and speed up the seek time of the disc storage unit. Therefore, the advantages of a low-profile and a high speed seek time can be obtained, respectively.
