A light source apparatus includes an excitation light emitter configured to irradiate excitation light, a phosphor that receives the excitation light and converts the excitation light into wavelength band light different from the excitation light, and a color wheel device. A first region of regions divided in a radial direction of the color wheel device includes a first transparent part that transmits the wavelength band light. A second region, which is different from the first region of the regions divided in the radial direction of the color wheel device, includes a reflector that reflects the excitation light and changes a light path and a second transparent part that transmits the excitation light. The phosphor is arranged on a light path of the excitation light reflected by the reflector or on a light path of the excitation light transmitted by the second transparent part.

A projection display system includes a reflection display device, an optical member for projecting an illumination beam toward the reflection display device from a direction inclined relative to a front surface direction of the reflection display device, an optical member for projecting an image beam projected from the reflection display device a onto a projection surface, and a relay lens disposed on a front surface side of the reflection display device. The relay lens corrects the illumination beam into a parallel beam that enters the reflection display device, and causes the image beam from the reflection display device to enter the optical member for projecting the image beam, and causes a part of the illumination beam that is surface reflected on a surface thereof facing the optical member to be reflected in a direction other than the direction in which the image beam is projected by the projection system optical member.

A light source unit is provided which includes a lamp and a reflector for reflecting rays of light emitted by a light emitting element of the lamp and for focusing the reflected rays of light. In order to focus on a predetermined focal point the rays of light emitted by the light emitting element of the lamp and refracted by a cross-sectional shape of the lamp, the reflector has a concave reflective shape formed so as to satisfy a predetermined calculation expression. Alternatively, a reflective surface shape of the reflector may be obtained by shifting portions of an ellipse and rotating a curve of the shifted portions around the optical axis of the light source unit.

An image projector comprises a liquid crystal display module and a light source both contained in a housing. The housing is formed with an inlet and an outlet, and is provided with a fan. An air flow channel is provided between the inlet and the outlet within the housing. There is provided a wind separator in the air flow channel, which separator separates cooling air such that cooling air flows separately towards the liquid crystal display module and the light source, for better cooling effect.

A liquid crystal viewfinder includes a plurality of liquid crystal display sections for respectively displaying images of a plurality of colors so as to obtain a full-color image, and an eyepiece. The liquid crystal display sections are arranged on the same plane along an outer side surface of an image pick up apparatus. The eyepiece is arranged outside the liquid crystal display sections in such a manner that the optical axis of the eyepiece is set to be substantially parallel to the direction in which the liquid crystal display sections are arranged. An image light reflecting mirror is arranged on the incidence side of the eyepiece so as to reflect an image light beam from one of the liquid crystal display sections to the eyepiece. Image light synthesizing mirrors are arranged between the image light reflecting mirror and the eyepiece so as to reflect image light beams from the other liquid crystal display sections to the eyepiece and to transmit the image light beam reflected by the image light reflecting mirror.

Viewfinder and image display/pickup apparatus using liquid crystal

A liquid crystal projector of the type, wherein the light emitted from a light source is split into a red beam, a green beam, and a blue beam, and these beams are applied to red-image, green-image, and blue-image display LCD panels, the red-image beam, the green-image beam, and the blue-image beam emerging from these LCD panels are combined and projected by a projection lens, thereby to form a full-color image. The projector has an optical system which guides the beams such that these beam have optical paths of the same length which extend from the light source or the LCD panels to the projection lens.
